Empowering Individuals Living with Mental Health Challenges

Educating others about mental health challenges can be tough, a process that takes time and as an opportunity for others to learn. Talking about mental health challenges can feel tough because not everyone understands how to be supportive or the right words to say. Living with mental health challenges is an everyday journey with some days being better than others. Mental health are two words that have different meanings to everyone we know and encounter.

Understanding your mental health journey is important because it is a part of our physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, personal and professional well-being. It takes strength to think about the mental health of yourself and others. Our world has experienced a lot of changes over the past few months, it has not been easy and has had different effects for all of us. Here in YPOC we understand the challenges of talking about it in communities of color. We hope you know that your mental health is important to us and we are here for you. Check out the Mental Health Self Care Wheel diagram which provides ideas/examples of how you can care for yourself. There are six areas of focus: Physical, Psychological, Emotional, Spiritual, Personal, and Professional.

Thank you for this very well written post! I really agree with what you said about how it takes strength to think about the mental health of yourself and others. I also really like all the examples of how you can take care of yourself and the areas of focus; I will definitely use some of the ideas soon!

This was a very concise and informative post! Understanding Maslovs hierarchy, and Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory, gives us so much insight into how to assist ourselves and others. Were all on our own path, and each of our unique needs matter— thats why comparison can be so discouraging. We all deserve to focus on ourselves and our own needs that deserve to be met. ♡
Thank you for such an insightful post. Yall are amazing.
