Hello lovely YPOC community, Its been a month since the lockdown and i hope you've been well!

Look around the personal development world and youll notice a lot about self-care. It may feel like it is another trending topic that people are jumping on the bandwagon with. But it's not at all. It has been around since the dawn of time. The Benefits of Self-Care are endless, its just up to us if we want to take it up or not.

Did you know? The Ancient Greeks practiced self care long before millennials made it into a multi-billion dollar industry. The Greek word for self care is philautia which translates most closely to ‘self love or ‘love of self. The ancient Greeks believed that when philautia was practiced appropriately (in a balanced and non-narcissistic way) it provided the foundation upon which all other love could be built. They believed that self care was a way to make people more honest citizens who would care for others. The more you love yourself, the more you could love others. As Aristotle put it, all friendly feelings for others are an extension of mans feelings for himself.

A question for this month: What are some benefits to self-care?

The reality is one has to take care of themselves first before they can care/love/support anyone else.

Self Care can be a nice break in a busy day, to make sure you don't get too overworked or burn yourself out.

@AddictedTealover98 Teal, that's really interesting. I think that we should remember that we are all allowed to self-care and that is can really be a boost to our energy and positivity. I think the main benefit is that we actually can be more productive if we allow ourselves proper rest, and time to recharge our batteries.
