Any sewers in the house?
Greetings and salutations! :)
I'm relatively new to sewing. Had done some years ago, but have gotten back into it in the last two years. Most of my projects have been simple ones - masks, scrub caps, and other easy stuff. Right now I'm working on a pillow mat for my daughter (about a third of the way finished right now).
My list of sewing ideas in Pinterest continues to grow, and I've been trying to get up the guts to give these things a try. Shirts, dresses, overalls, refashions... you name it! :)
Anyone else enjoying their sewing machine? What are you making?
Any tips and tricks you're happy to share? :)

I have a wonderful sewing machine. I have made all of our masks and simple things like that. In the past I have made dresses and dressing gowns, skirts and tops, Shirts are hard because of the collars I think and trousers too because of the zips which I really try and avoid lol.
I find that I sew when I need to. Or when something needs to be mended or made, fancy dress is one of my all time loves! hahaha! Just mention fancy dress and I am there with my machine!

I have issues w zippers too 😫 and avoid them as well. Fancy dresses sound fun!! Are the ones you make modern? It's love to be able to make one from the 1800s but I know that would take hours and lots of money so it's a project for Later in life.

start with Easy stuff, just sewing straight lines
make sure your stitch looks like he Sam on both sides. If not adjust your tension. There are a lot of free patterns online but printing them out uses a lot of paper. Try thrift shops for easy to see patterns. Wishing you luck ❤️
@exuberantStrawberries9544 I keep forgetting about going to thrift shops for patterns. Will have to do that. Yeah, printing the free patterns does use a lot of paper. And ink too!

Hi! I have been sewing off and on since I was a teen. I taught myself to sew on my mom's machine. It's very popular on my mom's side so it was only right to try it!
I have so many partially finished products -several quilts in various stages, snuffle mats, clothes that need altering in some ways and fabric that I can't bring myself to cut up because I love it so much 😆. Clothes altering has been the most constant and helps so much when thrifting. The most current thing I am working on is a skirt where I cut several inches of the bottom and want to add to the side to extend the size a bit.
@Mashedpotato364 what are snuffle mats? I've been doing some alterations myself, and lots of masks. There are a couple of refashioning blogs I follow for inspiration.
Hi snuffle mats are essentially blankets w pockets or strips of fabric or little puzzles of some sort to his years in for your pet. Usually made of fleece. It's supposed to stimulate their brain and have them use their nose to find food.
That's cool. I follow some people on Pinterest that do refashion. Have you altered anything lately?
I have done macrame, needlepoint and cross stitch in the past, but I've always wanted to learn to quilt. I have taken up felting recently. I've always loved the little things...miniatures, creations... that sort of thing.
@helpfulLime7294 my MIL has been getting into quilting, and husband's cousin-in-law does amazing quilts. That's on my list to try eventually, but I have to force myself out of my comfort zone...!
I just started learning to sew. I’m trying out embroidery to learn different stitches. I’m about halfway done with my first project, a graduation gift for a friend. It’s not perfect, but it’s nice to see the progress building.
