Is it ever okay for a psychiatrist to say this to me?
This is something that happened in the past.
Because of whatever happened, trauma, resentment and burnout combined, I had stopped going to psychiatry hospital for treatment. I forgot exact date and year but lets say its 2023 that I stop going. Then I came back at 2024 for treatment, firstly I met different doctors who prescribe me, but on following sessions I met the first psychiatrist who had diagnosed me on 2021.
The conversation went like this when he discovered I stopped coming to hospital.
Him: why didn't you come? Do you want me to inject your butt? (Slightly squint his eyes)
Me: (fawn response, i laughed) no, please dont.
And then some more stuff happened i cant tell whole story, its unpleasant memory.
I vented on social group about it when i came home. I was in tears and in pain. I was so triggered and shamed. Did i overreacted?
Lemme add the fact that i actually have schizophrenia mother who resists treatment so she gets injections at home and i had to deal with the trauma for years. This psychiatrist knew about my mom having schizophrenia and what treatment she gets.
Anyway.. i tried opening up to my clinical psychologist back then.. i cried a lot about it.. but the way she approached about it made me feel like i was overreacting.
I think she really focused on cbt. I feel like i wasnt emotionally met.
Was it okay for my psychiatrist to say that?
@fairmindedFig719
Did you overreact? No. Your feelings are valid. You were hurt and offended. Hiding that and pretending it was OK for you when it wasn't ok is not good in the long run.
We're they wrong to say what they did? I find it helpful to remember that people, including doctors, are human. And it is human to make mistakes. Its not fair, but if we expect people to never make mistakes, life is going to become very frustrating. Do you want to live your life constantly frustrated?
Im losing hope in therapy
@fairmindedFig719 It saddens me you had a distressing experience
The fawn response is people pleasing and it is a defence mechanism against standing up for yourself to avoid punishment or perceived punishment.
Next time I hope female staff are there to chaperon so that this is less likely to become abusive.
Keeps you in thoughts Fig
