Therapy isn't working.

I reached out to my therapist for support because I've been having a really hard time lately with feeling like my life is worthless but it's been 2 days and they haven't gotten back to me. It's what lead me to reaching out to the crisis line which ultimately led me here.

Should I just give up on this?

It doesn't seem like my therapist actually cares about me. I've been seeing him for half a year and my mental health has only gotten worse. I just need someone to actually care and want to listen. I thought therapy was gonna get me on track and help me feel like my life could matter but it hasn't done that at all. Every session just feels like a pity party with some dude sitting in the corner watching and waiting for it to be over.

Thank you for sharing @dynamicSailboat5643 ✨

I am terribly sorry that your therapist is not being whom you wanted them to be… it is challenging to find a good fit but please don’t give up! May I kindly suggest to find a new one?

You are important, your life matters, there is only one of you in this World

Sending you lots of good vibes✨

@dynamicSailboat5643

Sorry it's been rough lately.

I would try to bring up how you feel about therapy with your therapist. Maybe write down exactly what isn't working and what you want from them so you'll have notes to refer to in the session.

If they can't make adjustments based on your needs, you can leave and find another therapist.

Are you struggling to regulate your emotions? Try a therapist specializing in DBT. Are negative thoughts harrassing you? CBT. Have you been through trauma? Try a therapy based on connecting to your body. Would you benefit more from relating to orhers? Try group therapy. Do you feel words are not enough to express yourself? Try art or music therapy.

You've got options. Explore what you need and what your current therapist can offer you and then maybe look elsewhere.

Good luck and don't give up. I've been through 5 therapists in the last 10 years, some of them better and some of then worse, and now I am happy with my current one.

@dynamicSailboat5643 I feel what you are saying. I've tried therapy of all types with little to no improvement. I've tried in person therapy, virtual therapy. I've been trying for years. It can sometimes feel like a losing battle. It can get exhausting and leave you feeling hopeless. But one thing I've learned is that when things are at their worst the only thing I can control is my resilience. We can't give up. Tomorrow is a new day and maybe just maybe tomorrow will be better. I haven't discovered what works for me yet but therapy is not a one size fits all solution. It is merely one piece of the puzzle amongst many other pieces. I hope you find what works for you.

It is the worse part of therapy in my opinion..... finding the right therapist.  I think many give up because they do not have the right fit.

It is frustrating and maddening when we have to try a couple before finding someone who we click with.    After finding a good fit therapy can be slow because we want to fight the changes in how we see some things .... no matter how good a therapist is   the work is really ours.... like a personal trainer they can cheer us on but if we do not do the work no improvement.
