What gives you strength/motivation/discipline to go on?
I don't have the big answers to solve my problems. But I know somethings that I could do that would most likely improve my outlook. But I don't do them because it is not certain and it is some amount of effort or consistency required, which I don't have in me. How do I find the energy do make any changes when the outcome is uncertain and everything feels futile?

Unfortunately I don’t have any big sweeping answers to your valid questions.
I have also gone through some times of depression.
At those times, I would try everything! And, there was still this blanket of despair, fog when I looked into the future. Even future seconds seemed grim at the time.
What I have read since then is that depression includes an inability to imagine the future. That part of your, my, our minds might need a deep rest. Deep-rest equals one cure for Depressed.
Deep rest for the part of your mind that is not imagining a future anymore.
Allowing that part of your mind permission to do one small thing for yourself:
*a hot shower
*a warm soup
*buy yourself a small treat
*walk
*call someone, anyone
*do a puzzle
*pet a furry animal, preferably not an opossum
*sleep
*brush teeth
*accept forehead kisses
*breathe deeply ten times
Here’s are some roses of appreciation for your courage in sharing your thoughts.

These are great tips - thanks for sharing @CalmRosebud
I am going through to a painful phase of depression where I’m crying almost everyday and feel like life is too hard to deal with
I feel tired and like I’m the problem for feeling too much and thinking too much
I’m forcing myself to do small things that could bring me joy - today was forcing myself to go outside to water the plants. It helped me forget my feelings for a while
I just want to life a simple and soft life that doesn’t feel so heavy - I am finding that the little things in life have helped me stay grounded
like going outside and looking at the sky or trees, seeing a dog or puppy walk by, appreciating the beauty of flowers and cleaning can help calm the negative emotions
I would like to learn how to knit, hoping that the gentleness of that hobby can help me be more gentle with myself 🙏
