I've been dealing with Depression since I was 14. I have been taking medication for it for about ten years now, and I'm 40. It actually got worse when I had kids. There's not very many days where I don't think about death.

Anxiety has been since grade school. . . Started with test anxiety and dealing with a very hot tempered father.

Depression is shorter, probably end of high school. The snowball probably started with my stepmother threatening my violent father on me when things didn't go her way. I was always a people pleaser, and if I couldn't please them, then my self esteem lowered and I believe depression developed. (I know now only one I can please is myself.)

My depression was low in high school, so I've had it simmering for almost 20 years. ( I graduated in 2001.)

I have several moments in my life that cause ptsd.

I have been living a flawed and troubled life since I was a child, but I didn't notice signs of depression until I was about 12. Things I used to enjoy felt hollow and activities I used to spend hours devoting myself to were hard to focus on for more than a few minutes at a time. It got worse as time went on, to the point where I seriously considered suicide by the time I was 16.

I tried to hang myself but realized the ceiling fan wasn't strong enough to hold my weight. I tried to slit my wrists and almost committed but stopped because my little brothers were home and I hate the sight of blood. I would drive on the freeway at night with my eyes closed and fantasize about driving my truck off the side of the cliffs that surrounded the road. I didn't see death as it was, instead romantisizing it as a solution to all my problems. I couldn't picture my life ever getting better. I used to joke with my friends that I wasn't going to save for retirement because I wasn't planning on living past 22. Truth be told, though, I meant what I said.

I am now 18 going on 19, and while I can't say things have gotten better, honestly in a lot of ways they've gotten worse, I can at least say I'm trying to change my ways and learn from my mistakes. I have decided to use this app to talk about my feelings rather than trap them inside. I am trying to associate with supportive people and reject negativity. It's hard, and some days I find myself sitting in my car debating on whether I should just place my head in front of the exhaust and be done with it. But it's a process, and I know change on the magnitude I'm hoping for won't be overnight. I've been dealing with depression for 6 years now, and while I haven't gotten far, I've finally decided to start the journey towards healing.

About 9 years, give or take, but I wasnt officially diagnosed by a psychiatrist until last year. Ive had anxiety (social anxiety) and the loneliness associated with that for most of the 42 years of my life, and that would sometimes spiral into depression.

Basically, if I had a rough day at work or a nasty argument with someone or was bullied by someone, I would feel line I had no one to talk to, because I would also be afraid to approach people about it, and that would lead to depression where I would totally lose my appetite and not want to eat or do much of anything else; Id just mope and play out the negative events that happened over and over again in my mind.

For the best part of 10 years since losing my dad. Its hard to explain how one minute you call feel ok then a dark cloud grips you from the inside and can ruin the rest of your day/week. Re connecting with people and trying to do your job is sometimes a huge struggle. But with support from family and friends that dont feel you are a 'burden' are priceless

I've been dealing with depression since I was 13. I decided to tell my parents about it but they decided to dismiss it and told me I'm not depressed as they can somehow "tell" someone is depressed. I hate that I cant even share my struggles with my own family. Started harming myself because of it. I even told a person I trusted so much that she decided to betray me, told everyone that im crazy and now I'm bullied for it. Everyday i wake up feeling emptier, maybe i should not exist at all..

@Attackontitanotaku

Been there, but you're there on a help forum because you are stronger and more willing to live than you think. I've been depressed on and off for nearly 14 years. My family didn't believe me either, even though/because several are sick themselves. It's hard, there are moments of despair, and there are the moments when everything is worth it.
