Social Media plays such a great role to our life nowdays. But to me it's basically a double edge sword: On one hand it allows me to connect with my friends who I don't see due to distance problems. This provides me a temporary boost of happiness or a simple distraction from my problems. But after lingering around there is a sudden hit of depression because it makes me realize how alone I am and how everyone has advanced in life whilst am failing to pass the first hurdle. I want to see what my friends are up to but I feel depressed afterwards. I really miss them.

@uAlright

Hey, uAlright!

Long distant relationships/friendships are very difficult, I'm sorry you are feeling disconnected from your friends. Have you tried making new friends outside of your long distant ones? Even online friends are a great way of finding like minded people and enjoying their company. You said that you feel like everyone is advancing in life while you are failing to pass the first hurdle. Which hurdles in life are you finding difficulties with? If you could change your life and make it exactly how you would like, how would it be? What challenges do you face now that prevents you from having the life you dream of?

I recommend checking out our self-help guides on Depression and Loneliness. It may help give you useful suggestions and tips on how to cope with how you feel. You can also connect 1-1 with a listener if you like to vent about how you feel or you can join one of our many support rooms to talk with other members and listeners together.

I hope this helps a little, good luck and take care! heartxx

@KindListening Thank you for the support. Currently all is going well but school is the main hurdle for me. I usually do well in school like my targets were As. But I've had to move to a school where the main language isn't English. So I basically learn nothing so the exams will be difficult and physical friends are hard to find but I rather maintain my connection with my current friends.

I really understand what you mean by this. However, just because someone is a friend on social media and not irl, that doesn't mean they're not just as important. In spirit, you are not alone. Sometimes that's hard to swallow if you feel physically alone, but you have a wonderful, supportive group of people by your side, they just don't live as close as one would hope. <3 Know what I mean?

But it seriously is good to talk about these things; I'm glad you made this forum post.
