Hi. I'm 18 and have been struggling with depression for the past year and social anxiety my entire life. I like everything and anything involving creativity, storytelling, etc. However, since my depression hit, I've found myself unable to be inspired as much as I used to, and completely unable to sit down and write/develop stories. So lately I've turned to music as an outlet. I'm not very good at guitar but I like strumming and singing along to songs I hear on the radio. I worry sometimes I'll never get my old self back again, but I try not to give up hope. Stay strong everybody.
@politePineapple2995
hello, I have survived 3 y depression. I am an artist and I know how it feels when you take a pencil and there is absolutely nothing. Not a line to give you hope. It will pass. You will be creative again.
I turned to music too! It is wonderful, being able to manipulate a guitar to produce pleasant sounds. Magic! I love it. And I believe it changes your brain. Keep going!
@politePineapple2995 hi. Glad to meet you

I'm so sorry you're going through that! I hope this experience will help you. When I first realized I had depression, I was afraid I had lost my "fun self" and become a boring, depressed adult. :) I had several close friends inform me of my "loss of fun-ness" which caused me to fear a death of personality. I was afraid that once the depression was cured and "the face" fell away, I would not like myself. It wasn't until I ignored my friends' opinions and accepted my depression that I decided to be "myself". After this decision, I have learned that confidence is about accepting yourself with all your flaws, shortcomings, likes and dislikes. You may believe that your passion has gone and your heart cannot be opened again, but once you learn to accept yourself the way you are, you will love yourself. Nothing is ever lost, we only gain.
@Itsbekahnotbecca wow i guess its a journey, I mean i dont think anyone goes through life without being depressed at least once, Its a fight with our inner selves that we have to battle alone. I, myself have tried recovery multiple times but i could never find the perfect state of being, its all about the acceptance and like you said confidence.

Hello! I'm Emma and I am 16. I love art and I hope to be an artist one day. I also love music- I play clarinet, piano, and the electric bass :) I also like to read and write, but I haven't done much of either recently. I have never been formally diagnosed, but I can remember showing signs of depression since I was very young. I'm trying to get back into the 7 Cups community, so fee free to message me
@NebulousCoffee
I think we'd get along very well! My name's Ryan and I'm 17. I love art, though I'm not good at it, so I study art history in school. I love music - I'm the drum major for the marching band, and I play drums, guitar, and ukulele. I love reading; right now I'm reading the Sherlock Holmes books and they are sooo good. I'm a fair writer, too, but I haven't written much other than fanfiction. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at age 13 and bipolar at age 15ish, but I knew all along that there was something a bit off about me. We should be friends! I'll message you.
@YourBestFriendRyan It's great that you're finding ways to cope with feelings, and still be able to do things you love. I'm working on that now, actually.
@NebulousCoffee update: I can't message you if you're not a listener, which it looks like is the case. You'll have to message me at YourBestFriendRyan.
@NebulousCoffee hi Emma! I'm Charlie, and I'm 15! I love music so much- I write some of my own, as well as play ukulele, guitar, cello, and sing
I love writing and reading, and I struggle with depression and anxiety. I would love to get to know you, please feel free to message me
I am 31, female, mother of 3, and have always battled with depression. Since I was a young child. I thought it was normal, but its destroying my life and I refuse to take medicine so I am hoping this helps. My family are so tired of it and usually I am able to snap out of it for a while but for the past 6 months I just can't.
@Libertina Good for you for sticking by your convictions. I have tried anti-depressants and they didn't work very well for me. Only you know what feels right and works for you, and no one else can tell you that. Depression can be like a disease and I don't think enough people take it seriously. I know firsthand how debilitating it can be. But it sounds like you're very strong and care about your life and your children. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here.

Hello I am a programmer who suffers with depression I find concentring on code helps me to forget the things wrong with my life yet I have come to terms recently that I have started to not care about the problems they don't even scare me any more I think this is a bad sign as I feel some how some way it is all going to stop logically I tell myself it won't end well but when it's all over I will probably be homeless with very little left of me and I think that's OK I don't want to make a mark on the world I just want to pass through it. The world the universe is billions of years old and my lifetime is just a blink thinking about things this way its not so bad it will pass just have to wait for the game to end.

I know things seem hopeless but there are tons of resources and people to help you on here and in other places and your community. Hi. Hello! I've been living with depression since I was about 16 - and probably longer than that. A lot of the time, I get by pretty well. There are times though, like now, when it gets the better of me and I sink into a sea of dispair and loneliness.
Hello, names Beth and I'm 22. Been struggling with depression and anxiety for about 10 years, as well as, PTSD from years of abuse. I come from a very broken family, and it's only recently that I have gained the ability to seek any help. I feel very out of place in my environment most of the time, and seems like I get little to no help or understanding from people. I don't really have anyone I can turn to, but I try to better myself little by little. I have anti depressants that help a little. Clears the sky's for a little while. It's hard to admit most times that I have an emotional or mental crisis, but I'm trying to get better in reaching out to people when I'm in need of it.
@Meya
I have a very similar situation minus antidepressants. I think we could make good friends at least we'd both have someone who understands what we're going through. :)
@Cheshire94 I think we could be. It's nice to hear that someone else understands too. C:
I hate taking medicine all I can say taking meds is way better feeling depressed all the time that's for sure.
@kp0899 Welcome to 7 cups! Even though taking medicine is a pain (side effects, remembering to take them, etc), you are right. It is way better than feeling down all the time.
Hi, my name is Alizhay (but for those who don't think they're pronouncing it right you can call me AJ or Ali :) ) I am 17 about to be 18. I love to study languages and am recently studying 13 of them. The last three years I've only read books from the 17-18th century. I am a very old soul and I don't have much luck connecting with people no matter how much I would like to because my interests are so varied. I sing, play piano, guitar, ukulele and flute. One of my favorite things to do is collect and care for different types of cacti. I very much value my solitude, but I crave intellectual conversation and compatibility with other souls. That's all I guess, I hope everyone is having a fantastic day/night/evening what have you c:
@ForeverImproving
Hi!! I know that very difficult for u but what about mybe u not study so many languages so u show people that ur not that busy so they could talk to u!☺

@funkyBanana4842 I can't figure out how to message you! Haha, I'm quite new here, message me??
@ForeverImproving, @funkyBanana4842 - members can message only listeners, not other members, but you're both welcomed to chat with each other in forums and support room. All the best!
@ForeverImproving,
Perhaps your love of books and languages is a distraction? I knew a boy who had learned 7 languages by the time he was 18 and I believe he used that gift to distract himself from negative feelings and loneliness. Does that make sense? Glad you posted!
@ForeverImproving Hello my name is Jessica, I enjoy languages as well. I'm trying to learn swedish right now.
