Feelings of unreality/surreality

Hi guys,

This is something I'm really struggling with at the moment and I was wondering if someone else has experienced something similar. Sometimes I get this really weird feeling that nothing is real around me, like I'm not actually part of reality. This is so hard to explain. It's like I'm looking at stuff happening around me like I'm not part of it, like I'm watching it from a bubble. This is usually worst in the evening. I don't know how to get out of these states :(

Has anyone else experienced this/have any suggestions what I could do in that moment to "snap out of it"?

Hi there,

Yeah does that strange and unnatural . I can't say what your experiencing is right or wrong but hard to point out.

If this is happening on a regular basis maybe best thing to do is speak to someone who can get the reason for this happening to you. Maybe a professional who is likely to know the answers for this happening .

Do you see anyone at the moment for anything in particular? Making sure you know your health is ok and you alright in general might save you from the constant worrying.

I'm sure everything will be ok but I would say talk to someone first to put your mind at ease.

Hope that helps

@SineadLSU

I used to feel like this a lot and I think it's kind of normal for people who struggle with depression.

I used to feel like what was going on in the world had nothing to do with me, I couldn't be a part of that, my reality was so much different from the one in "the outside world". When I was with other people I was still in my world, in my bubble, I couldn't get out of it and partecipate in what was going on around me. I started thinking none of that was real.

I don't know how I got out of it, I think it happened gradually when I was finally getting better.

I don't really know if I can explain myself properly right now, I can just tell you what I would say to myself if I could speak to "one-year-ago-me": don't see the bubble as a prison, stop trying to get out of it. Of course it's good if sometimes you can feel part of something, talk to people, it's actually necessary, but the bubble probably just means you're not ready to deal with the outside as other people do. Don't see it only as a limit, see it as a protection. The rest of the world is outside, it can wait a bit more, it's not gonna change that much, you're not gonna miss anything special. The world is real, but if you feel that it's not, it's because nothing happening there makes sense for you right now, so just forget a bout it for a bit. In the meantime try to concentrate on yourself and on how to improve your life. What's happiness to you? How do you see people from the bubble, do you think they're happy? What makes them happy? Find your own answer, work on yourself to get to that happiness. It's not easy but it gives you purpose. Find a goal, forget about what's not important and work to get to that goal. Once you start feeling better the bubble will start disappearing, you will feel more comfortable with other people, you will even be able to integrate, to feel part of the outside. Things will become real again and you're gonna feel like your reality is finally connected to the "outside realty" again.

I don't know if this can help, just know that it's not going to last forever and you can find your own way to make this feeling disappear.
