So guys , today I had my first therapy session . My therapist told me that I dont know myself better and that my personality is kinda hidden under many layers . She advised me that for me to progress in depression it is extremely imp that I know myself well and only after that the healing process will start.

So, one of the things that she told me was to spend some time with myself and observe the thoughts I get and jot them down . That will help to understand myself.

Apart from this can anyone advise me how to make the most out of therapy sessions so that I can expedite the healing process ??

Thanks for reading :).

That's not a real enough answer to advice you on getting what you want out of therapy. It's more asking yourself what do you want out of it? As your counsellor said thinking about you as yourself as a person knowing you before anything can be taught to you to help. The thing I would say is understood first off what counseling is about. What is counselling, how it works? Having that already as an idea on what you can expect will not make you feel that if it's for you or not. It's just going there and seeing yourself. Going with the flow. I don't think you need to worry if early days on your journey or think ahead and think unrealistic thoughts. Making yourself believe untrue facts. If you wanna know more it's best to do your research or just ask your counsellor. Otherwise there's stuff out there online what can give you a better idea on what you and what's important to know about having your first counselling. I don't know if it's that your asking for but sounds like you wanna know more so that's why I asked.

I hope that helps in time and things change for you and Yiu feel more confident to explore new things and adventures.

@calmsoulmeet

Definetly write down how you're feeling throughout the week because talking about it will help you with progress. Another thing is you already took the first step in seaking help, so the next step is making sure you are trying to do what your counciler asks you to. Even if its just making sure you set time for yourself to write how you feel, or hell even reminding yourself to shower. Self care is extremly important when working towards combating depression or any type of mental health. That being said though I know it can be hard to even do that.

@calmsoulmeet I've heard of this exercise where you write down your thoughts. I think it's quite a common technique. As far as I know, the important thing is to try and capture all your thoughts, as far as possible, even the thoughts that don't seem very important because they don't last long and you immediately think something else. Then you'll have plenty of material to work with in your next therapy session, and I've been told that those very brief thoughts are sometimes the most significant ones.
