depression and lack of sleep
Hello, I'm looking for any advice on fixing my sleeping habits. It bounces around from me passing out anywhere at any time to me going to bed at a decent hour and not being able to fall asleep. I can never stay assleep either and I've been waking up with panick attacks that im going to be late. I recently have been taking iron supplements which will hopefully help with some of my tiredness ( I have love iron) but I'm still exhausted which in turn doesn't help my mood. Please can anyone help me?
hi, thanks for reaching out here!! i have trouble falling asleep as well, these are the things i do personally before bed:
-limit caffeine intake!
-take a hot shower before bed
-watch soothing cat videos
-listen to calming music
-take 5mg of melatonin (it's a natural sleep stimulant)
i find that letting my mind wander is best for falling asleep fast... i don't try to control the flow of my thoughts, andeventually i justease into sleep.
if these kinds of things aren't helpful, though, you might want to look into talking to your doctor about your insomnia (if that's possible)! also, try going to sleep at the same timeevery night regardless of if you feel tired so that you can get your circadian rhythm to adjust.
Thank you very much for your reply. What do you do about waking up multiple times a night or waking with panick attacks
If you have access to a health food store, I would reccomend talking to the clerk about valerian root. It tastes awful, but has really helped me with getting good nights sleeps.
This sounds like one of the most obvious things ever but it really works for me , take the phone , tablet or laptop out of the room because of course if you can't sleep and want a distraction they are awesome , but really they just mess up your sleep patten even more.

My advice would be quite the opposite as mentioned above. Don't go supplementing on your own. Iron can cause tiredness too, and can interact with medication, as can valerian root. If you do want to supplement, ask advice from a pharmacist or a family physician on what to take, and what goes well with your meds (if you take any).
My advice would be: go for structure to help you through your day. Set hours to wake up, go to bed, do things. And talk, talk talk about why you feel this way. Panic attacks always come from somewhere. You're more than welcome to talk to any of us listeners to make you feel better. All the best to you!
