supporting people with depression
hi hope you all are doing well, I have a family member who lives in another state who is dealing with depression. she texted my mom saying how she wants to die, mom talked to her till she calmed down and set up a therapy session for the next day .she is unfortunately not very close to me and doesn't reply to my messages. so I was trying to connect with people who have experienced suicidal thoughts/depression before for some advice on how to talk to her. some tips in making sure she feels comfortable enough to talk to me. I feel like calling her directly is not a good idea since she won't be comfortable.

Here are some thoughts about this, as I'm not really in a position to give advice.
It sounds like your mom was able to calm her down, so your mom might be able to give you tips on how to talk to her.
I notice you're a listener, and the listener training here tells you how to talk to people when they're troubled. Active listening really works in real life. The only difference between 7 Cups and real life is that in real life it's OK for people to talk about wanting to díe, if that's what they want to talk about, and if it's OK with you for them to talk about it.
You can't really make anyone talk to you. If it turns out she's not comfortable, she's not comfortable.
Calling her directly doesn't sound like such a terrible idea to me, but you know her better than I do. Maybe this is another thing to run by your mom.

@AmusedConfused16 hello! if i was in your spot, maybe tell your mom to tell your family member that you care??? so at least they know you're there? idk the whole situtation but yeah
@staya1ivef0rme61 thanks for your help, my mom has explained to her that we care, I hope she realizes we aren't saying it for the sake of it and that she can rely on us.
@AmusedConfused16 you've done what you can <3
