We want to get to know you!
Hey all,
usually summer is the best time of the year for me and my mental health. This summer, however, has been miserable, and it's not like anything has really happened to cause it. I haven't spoken to anyone in my family, particularly my parents in almost a week. I go to work, come home, eat, make the most brief small talk without eye contact and go to bed. I usually go to the gym to avoid talking, too and I've been so angry at everyone for no reason. I don't really talk to my friends about it because it seems like that's all I do anymore, and I don't want to rain on their parade because I'm feeling off. At this point I'm so careless about my future and my priorities that it just seems like I'm going through the motions and my daily routine just to get through each day.
@tcds65 - Depression is a beast that can bite at almost any time! It can be disheartening when it seeps into otherwise depressionless periods of our lives. Sometimes daily routines are all we have, and someimes we don't even have the energy to follow those. Depression is difficult to say the least. You are strong for coming here and sharing your story and trying. It's an exhausting effort but I understand what it can be like for me, and I hope you find some solace here. *hug*
Hello Everyone,
A short history of my depression. Been diagnosed with depression for almost 20 years (2/3 of my life so far). I had experienced a few childhood traumas, most of which still affects me to this day. Over the period of these 20 years, I had OD twice, and both times hospitalized. I had been going on and off medications before, but I've been back on them again for the past year or so. I've seen Psychologists, Therapists, and Counsellors before, but I couldn't see them for too long because it was getting pricey, and my medical plan doesn't cover it.
I'm currently in one of those depressive phases again. It was so bad that I had to take a 5-day Leave of Abscense from work. I'm still not quite back to normal yet. I've completely lost the appetite to eat, only eating one meal a day (dinner).
And that's about it!~
@Jaeteuk - Your self-awareness is incredible and seem very open to something new that might help you, that's great. Welcome! Depression in itself is hard. There are several other communities here at 7cups that may help you with your other struggles as you continue grow. Hope you find what you are looking for. *hug*
@melonMeloncholy
I've always wanted to find a chat group of some sort. Where others have experienced similar things and can be an ear to each other. I see things differently than others, and have often heard that my opinions sound very insightful. I'm hoping 7 Cups can be amother stepping stone for me. I've been quite busy lately, adjusting to my new working shift, I don't really have the time to think of other things. Only thin that haven't changed is the lack of appetite~
@Jaeteuk
allow your heart to show your mind that is stronger. Talk to your mind and heart separately like you'd talk to a person. Thank them that they are there for you, trying to save you. The pain and anxiety are signs of you fighting.
the suffering becomes somatic, your organism gets weak. Help it, treat it with love. Practice everything mindfully: now I am cleaning my skin, now I am feeding myself, I give proteins to my body, I give it minerals, I give it water. Another day passed and I made through it.
I know you are not hungry and feel all hope is lost. Zoom out, look at yourself from a universal position. You are a wonder to exist. My atoms are happy your atoms exist. You are part of me, and I am part of you. We together and everybody else are part of something miraculous. Be ready to see it, open yourself up, time is just a mountain that you see in the distance. Go close to it, sit there as much as you want but when you feel it say it loud and clear: I have emptied myself, I kissed regret goodbye. I am important.
If I did it, you can too.

Hi! My name is Cami and I have Major Depression/Anxiety Disorder with panic attacks. I'm currently a graduate student, and I'm about to start my last year of graduate school! I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety my last year of college and began treatment (medication) shortly before I graduated. After my diagnosis, I named my depression "Fred" and my anxiety "George" so I could talk about them and see them as something I could handle (plus, I love Harry Potter so I'm always ready to talk about that). I began counseling once I started graduate school in the fall and am still attending my school's counseling center. After a long and hard fight, I was beginning to improve but have started "sliding back" and it is starting to interfere with the way I function. Fred and George have gone from riding in the back seat to trying to drive the car. I joined 7 cups in the hopes of expanding my support system and supplementing my treatment with new skills and ways of thinking that I learn here!
Hey I'm Sarah and I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety several months back. At this point I've tried two different antidepressants and another medication to help with self harm, but nothing seems to help anymore and I feel like I'm ready to be done with it all. It's the summer and i don't have much going on yet somehow everything is overwhelming... Hopefully this place will help
Sup, or whatever.
I need help and someone to talk to. I'm looking for a therapist..just hope they aren't to far and stuff. I am wanting to know if anyone has advice on depression and anxiety meds? I feel so lost and feel thats the only thing that can really help. Sleeping and eating is becoming hard. Trying to stay focused and happy for 30 mins is hard. I feel my issue is worthless or not that bad..but I can't pretend I don't hurt..and am afraid to be emotionally hurt again.
@Dreamerseyes
Meds definetely help some people, it's great you are trying to help yourself. Unfortunately they didn't help me and my emotional state was about ten times harder to fight at the beginning with them so I gave up (the doctor warned me about not giving them up because the depression gets enhanced, but after a few weeks it's getting controlled by the inhibitor). I could not. But I know people who managed to get over the critical period where the body gets adjusted with the pills and they are ok now.
Try.
If they don't work and you still feel bad, talk to the doctor, maybe psychotherapy will help too. Don't be alone through this.
Time heals and you are stronger than you think.
hello wonderful people,
i've been struggling with depression for almost 11 years now. that is half my age.
when i feel like an utter mess, it feels impossible to change my perspective on things to view them differently.
i hope being apart of this community will help change that.
sending strenth to you all
I've had a rough week. A misunderstanding put me in freefall. But once triggered I go down quick. Now it's days to get out of rut. I've had depression for twenty years but the last 18 months terrible ups/downs. I wonder how it will be when I get older than I already am!
@AsYouWish3214
Im so sorry you have been going through such a hard time. Whats in your diy soothing kit
@SisterHaleemaCounselor
not much
Ive dealt with some degree of depression for most of my life, though Ive never had professional treatment/therapy for it because my parents view mental illness as that thing we never talk about. I cant afford to get diagnosed or get treatment for it now, because Im a full-time caregiver to both of my parents. For the past 5 years Ive put my life on hold (quit my job, my boyfriend moved to 10 hours away for work), moving back home initially to help my mother look after my father (he has a neurological disease), and this year my mother was diagnosed with cancer.
Most days I can keep things at bay, just going through the motions of taking care of my parents, but at night I feel hopeless more and more, and crying at random, which isnt a good sign for me. Im hoping that this community can help, since you know what its like to feel this way.
