@AffyAvo

What barriers have you experienced with healthcare?

Some of my barriers, I’m not actually very independent 😔 Like I need someone there to hold my hand.

Have you noticed any things that helped to ease potential barriers?

:’) well, on my 2nd hospital trip last week, I bought a plushie with me, it made things seem more okay (and also I am fine)

How are things going for you this week?

horrible. Being depressed while grieving is hard and difficult and just awful. It’s not easy :/

Hi emo,. It can be scary going to the hospital. Having a plushie with you sounds awesome way to help. What kind do you have?

It is okay to need help. We are all human and work in our own ways. A plushie sounds like a great way to cope with being in a hospital. Hospital trips can be scary and overwhelming. Having something to calm the mind down and be a distraction is always a good thing. I am sorry to hear you are grieving. It is normal to be sad when grieving and depressed at the same time. It is a lot to handle but we've got your back! We are ready to support you however we can!

Barriers I face are lack of understanding about the illness (multiple sclerosis).

Some other barriers just in general are 1)being treated helpless or 2)being treated like my illness doesn't exist at all! Very frustrating.

When I am not feeling well, might not be able to get around or drive. Which can be scary at least, dangerous at worst.

I am doing okay I suppose. I am dealing with a lot of life stressors and trying to figure out how to navigate this illness on my own with the support system I had falling out from under me. It is so tough. I just keep praying.

@Heal2Grow,

One of the biggest barriers in my opinion is the lack of understanding. Often doctors will explain things but that doesn't mean we understand the terminology and what is behind it. Educating oneself is one of the fastest ways to break down that barrier. Have you asked your doctor to explain it in a way you can understand?
I feel you when you say you get treated like the illness doesn't exist. With my condition most don't think it exists until it becomes noticeable and then people pay attention. You should be treated equally and fairly whether or not they can see the illness.

I can understand how that is scary when not being able to get around much. It makes you feel hopeless and no one wants to feel that way.

I am glad to hear things this week are going well though. My support system kind of fell out from under me as well, so I know how bad the stressors and feelings can affect a person. Just remember, those stressors are only temporary. You may not have immediate support but myself and others here at 7 Cups will always be ready to support you. Yes, we don't know you too personally but we can still care and that's exactly what will happen. We are here to support you however we can!
