Body acceptance can be difficult with disabilities.

Sometimes we physically look different than societal norms due to disabilities. Other times it's how our bodies function.

How do you feel about your body?

What tips would you give to someone who is struggling with how they look or function?

How is this week going for you?

My body is mine and it doesn’t matter what anyone else think. I try to just stay positive because being critical of self image doesn’t get me anywhere. Embrace yourself and be proud. You are beautiful.

How do you feel about your body?

I don't have physical disabilities that would show outside, but I hate my body nonetheless. Especially my brain these days, since that's the biggest cause of my disabilities.

What tips would you give to someone who is struggling with how they look or function?

Be understanding and non-judgmental, because you never know how a person feels about themselves. When it comes to functions, have patience.

How is this week going for you?

Just started and not too well. Happens, tho.

@OneErased I can relate to hating parts of yourself because of the disabilities. Yes, patience and understanding go a ling way!

I hope the rest of the week goes better for you.

I am very small because of chromosomal syndrome I have and sometimes makes me really upset because people think I am lot more little I am. I am 13 they think I am way more younger and then my brain makes me really sad. I get sad I am not really smart and brain doesn’t let me do things I want like get dressed my own or talk with mouth words.

Just this week has been bad. Whole month bad. I go to hospital and stuff. Have a lot of seizures after not have since last summer. They change medicine and stuff and hope they go way again. I have to wait until 2 weeks no seizures until I go surf again

@theboymoana

Oh I can imagine people trying you as if you're much younger! I am short, not atypical, just short. I found for years people would assume I was much younger than I was. I don't know why people assume short or small framed = young.

I really wish you luck with getting those seizures controlled, I know you want to go surfing and I hope you can enjoy most of the summer doing that!

@AffyAvo

Magical greetings AffyAvo! Thanks for this check in, this is such an important topic yet can be so hard to talk about

How do you feel about your body?

I have a few issues with both the way I look and the way my body functions. Both have caused me to be treated differently.

What tips would you give to someone who is struggling with how they look or function?

Your bodily processes and your psychial looks don't make you anything and there not who you are.

How is this week going for you?

Mostly good, yesterday and earlier today was little rough but I'm starting to feel better.

Have a magical journey your friend Flute

@ChildGoddessFlute

Thanks for checking in!

It's unfortunate people can treat us poorly due to things we cannot control but I like your tip. Our bodies are part of us and do certainly affect shaping us, but yes it's not who we are!

Hope you feel better soon!

How do I feel about my body? As a teenager I use to self harm. So I have scars on my arms. Having these scars causes many people to judge and look at me differently. I've gotten to the point where I brush it off & don't focus too much on it (I use to wear sweatshirts in the summer) I also have had a spinal fusion for scoliosis. The pain I have in my spine causes me tremendous pain and I can't find a job due to that. If someone was in my shoes I'd tell them that they have gotten this far where you may still have bad days but you don't need to harm yourself to cope with these feelings & that's a great achievement from where you were in the past. Letting emotions out is better than bottling them up. If someone were to explain the pain they go through due to a spinal surgery id tell them that the first few years

@lovingSouth7386 Thanks for coming in! That's great you both overcame the need to selfharm plus have accepted it for what it was. It can be so difficult to have something that limits job options, it's good to hear you have learned to express emotions in a healthy way.

I feel okay about my body today. I have a learning disability and I was vision impaired from elementary school until 9th grade. Feel free to ask me questions. My name is Katie. You might have to work harder or do things a different way but you got this.

Due to my medical conditions, I am extremely tiny. I don’t like it most of the time because it physically hurts, and I know I’m judged by others. It limits my accessibility to do things.

Tips I would have is to do something for yourself which makes you feel good. I like to put on a nice perfume, or a soft shawl or some jewelry. I decorate my cane and walker with affirmation stickers and cute plant stickers and such.

This week has been hard. I’m in a major flareup which has caused me to drop weight, so it’s harder for me to look at myself in the mirror. Drying off after showering is uncomfortable. My medical conditions impact my family because they have to help me and I’m still adjusting to that. I went from being very independent, to not.

@intellectualPenguin5720

I can relate to the reasons for not liking your body. Your suggestions are great though and I love that you decorate your walker!

That does sound like a very difficult week. Losing independence is a very tough adjustment. Hopefully the flareup will ease soon.

Hi! Just joined today.

1. I hate my body. I’m transgender but haven’t been through surgery yet so I have gender dysphoria. I also have species dysphoria. I am overweight due to psychiatric medication and binge eating. I’m bound to a wheelchair and I have cerebral palsy. People look down on me for my disabilities and my family does some intense helicoptering. I am a sexual abuse victim. It’s been 7-8 years since it happened and my body feels wrong. I feel like I should’ve been born an animal. I feel subhuman.

My advice is that even if you feel worthless and alone you’re here for a purpose. Sometimes it takes a while to ascertain, but you’ll find it.

Week has been absolutely awful. Having anxiety about everyone but me having control over me. It’s making me engage in self harm. I’m also moving soon and everyone is making things difficult.

@YourTypicalHouseCat

Welcome!

That's quite a number of reasons you don't have the body you want. Oh and the helicopter parents it's like yes, you want to help but give a bit of space!

Finding purpose can be so important!

Wow sounds like an overwhelming week and not having control can make you feel pretty helpless, especially if that control was taken instead of given. Do you think things will improve once the move is complete?
