How does your disability affect your mental health?
It makes me unable to go out regularly and socialize and such, so I end up isolated and lonely a lot of the times. It can also be very boring and depressing to be stuck doing the same things every day, and to be stuck in pain.
Are there things you do to reduce the negative impact that a disability has on your mental health?
I try to do as much self care as possible, do things that make me happy and reach out to people when I can.

It's early still so it's hard to tell how things are going, but I'm optimistic enough. I still have some pain where I had my IP port removed last week which is causing me some difficulty. But I have hope that it will stop hurting soon, and maybe I'll have a good week.
@PanickedPrincess It sounds like you have some good ways to manage the issues that come with being in pain and isolated.
I hope you recover quickly from your port removal!
@PanickedPrincess
I had a port for chemotherapy, and now a scar which I am glad to show off because I made it through cancer! :)
@PanickedPrincess sorry to hear your going through so much fingers crossed too fast recovery

things are good so far. Some pain but that's my normal.
@AffyAvo thanks for getting this week's check in affy
@CaringBrit No problem, I hope your computer gets fixed though!
My hearing disability is the most distressing of my challenges. I realized just this week that I blame myself for not being able to hear well. That is flawed thinking, and I am trying to change it. I need to instead, get after The World to accomodate my needs.
I cop to my hearing loss, to give people the chance to accomodate me. I just try to be patient with people who ask about my leg compression. I remind myself that they're allowed to be curious, and that I've never once received negative feedback from someone after my explanation.
It's a good week. I am immersed in Recovery activities and engaging with the Recovery Community. I feel hopeful and tranquil. I hope it lasts for a while.

How does your disability affect your mental health?
*I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (amongst many other things), and both make my mental health worse. The fatigue adds to my depression, which exacerbates each other. The fibro fog and pain make my anxiety and panic attacks worse. I

*I try, but with varying degrees of success. Yoga, stretching, meditation, my medication, etc are different things that sometimes help.

*This week has been ok.
@AffyAvo it would be much better if people were more educated about my disability. Most people don't know it exists because it is uncommon and if they do know they most likely don't understand it. Many people have tried to tell me that there isn't anything wrong with me that a little bit of pain is normal but they don't understand how much it hurts. Some people just say I'm lazy and looking for an excuse.if they do believe me then chances are they don't undertand the affect it has on me physically mentally and socially.
My mental health is better when I don't push myself to far if I push myself out of my abilities I just end up upset with myself that I can't do what everyobe else can and in pain that I could have prevented. I still can't accept that my body just can't handle too much physical activity.
I've been more depressed and angry lately but I don't know why. I'm upset with myself because I scrubbed the back of my hand with the hard scratchy part of a sponge until it was bleeding. I've been trying really hard not to self harm

How does your disability affect your mental health?
I have multiple disabilities: mild dyslexia and severe OCD. You can't imagine how these disabilities have a toll on me every single day while doing the most basic of activities. It makes things unbearable and sometimes even, frustrating.
Are there things you do to reduce the negative impact that a disability has on your mental health?
Oh yes, definitely. Meditating every morning for at least 45 minutes to an hour really helps practice my mind and self to being patient with what I have and to take things one at a time.

Actually, things have been alright to be honest. I have made my peace with several people and asked for other's forgiveness due to my behavior in the past and it has gone great ever since then. I'm still healing from my divorce and from a very recent breakup with someone I just had started to get along with. Turns out he had a girlfriend at the same time we were dating. He was going to choose between me or her, and I told him I'll make this so much easier on you. I let him go. We agreed that we'll still talk as friends but I haven't heard from him ever since we broke up and split ways. I'm not going to talk to him until he heals up and is ready to initiate a "normal" conversation as friends.
