@gentleSun78 Nice job on the check-in for this week.
@Happy900 Thanks for your appreciation. :)
@gentleSun78 Thanks for your kindness and your support,my friend.
@gentleSun78
1) Do you live in a supportive family?
I don't live in the most supportive family :(
2) Which are the best moments you remember from your family life?
I think when I was younger I felt like a kid living in a happy childhood but I wouldn't have considered myself as a happy kid now that I look back.
3) How does your disability impact your family life?
I don't have a disability but my heart goes out for those who have one because they are so strong and so resilient <3
4) Do you struggle with anything regarding your family life?
Yes. Mountains of disapproval and a lot of just resentment for how they raised me to be dependent on them for everything (which thank god I've grown out of) and teaching me not to have my own opinion on things. It's alright though, I think I've grown out of it after recognizing it.
@TheAtticusFinch It must be very tough for you recognizing that your family wasn't really supportive after you spent your childhood thinking that it was ok family. I feel you. Being raised to not to have your own opinion and being dependent on others for everything can be very challenging in the world where people need to be indepedent and have their own opinion. I hope that your situation improves.
@gentleSun78
1) Do you live in a supportive family?
No, I live alone
2) Which are the best moments you remember from your family life?
as a child, campint at the lake
3) How does your disability impact your family life?
Ii don't get to visit familliy like I would like to
4) Do you struggle with anything regarding your family life?
transportation and distance is an issue
@WeedyGarden Thanks for sharing. Sorry you do not get to see your family like you should.
I do not drive, due to my coordination being not so good.
So transportation is always an issue for those of us who are disabiled.
@WeedyGarden Transportation and distance can be really a issue especially if you are disabled and you can't use all the transportation means which are available to people who aren't disabled or you need help to use these transportation means. I am glad that you have some awesome memories living with your family when you were a kid.
@gentleSun78 I here you and agree with you there.
1) Do you live in a supportive family?
Supportive enough- yes
2) Which are the best moments you remember from your family life?
I do think I had a pretty good childhood growing up.
3) How does your disability impact your family life?
Again, some people just don't understand it, because they can't see it- but thye're pretty good with it. They know I struggle and know I am in pain etc.
4) Do you struggle with anything regarding your family life?
We don't talk about our feelings and such soo much, which is a shame, but it helps me to listen to others, becuase I know how it feels to not have someone to offload onto :)
@PotFullOfSky2020 I am glad that you had nice moments with your family. Yes, it can be very tough if your family doesn't acknowledge your disability because it isn't visible. Many families don't discuss feelings of their family members and it can be very tough if you need conversations about your feelings because they burden you.
@gentleSun78 Thank you so much for your kindness. It is such a shame people feel like a burden to their own families and are unable to talk about these things.
1) Do you live in a supportive family?
Yes, my husband is amazing. Growing up, my parents were fairly supportive too, although there were some things that were really inappropriate considering my health issues, but they were doing the best with the information they had.
2) Which are the best moments you remember from your family life?
Holidays, vacations, special occassions were all pretty fun.
3) How does your disability impact your family life?
It has thrown in a fair bit of stress to our lives. We don't do many of the things we would have done otherwise. My husband does well beyond more than 50% of any of the physical tasks that need to be done.
4) Do you struggle with anything regarding your family life?
In general, not being able to do the things I want, including stuff I would like to do with my family.
@AffyAvo Thanks for sharing. You did an amazing job.
@AffyAvo I am glad that you have and had very supportive family and that you have got very nice memories about fun things you did with your family. It must be very hard for you not being able to do everything you want and that your husband has to do more things than you because you can't do so much.
@gentleSun78
1) Do you live in a supportive family?
Yes and no. They're generally warmhearted people, but they have prejudices against mental illnesses, medication, therapy and so on. So in that reagard not so much.
2) Which are the best moments you remember from your family life?
It's less certain big moments and more the little things that are precious to me. Just the wholeness I feel when looking back.
3) How does your disability impact your family life?
I am super anxious, loopy and forgetful all day. People constantly have to repeat themselves or remind me what I was doing again. I need to de-stress a lot too, otherwise I get more severe issues. Which sucks because I am hard working and don't like realxing once I'm in the zone.
4) Do you struggle with anything regarding your family life?
I try to hide certain problems from them. They know some things like my social anxiety and my daily forgetfulness, but they don't really know about my big memory gaps and my anxiety induced auditory hallucinations for example. It can be really tough to keep it from them, but I don't want to be judged or treated negatively because of their prejudices. But even now it's quite lonely and hurtful the way it is.
My family is okay. I would like them to be more accommodating. I'll work on it. My mom cares a lot. I am not the only one in my family with issues.
I don't know if I belong in this community. Is this an okay place to talk about health issues and stuff? I have recently started wondering if my health issues (many different issues that got worse or began about a year ago) would be considered chronic pain or a chronic illness at this point. Am I disabled? I don't know... I think that in some ways I have just adapted so that things don't bother or hurt me as much. I walk slowly and stop often to stretch so that I don't get joint pain. This makes my pain much better, almost so that it's not there anymore. Does this mean that I don't have a chronic pain issue or disability anymore? Because I have adapted? Even though if I don't do those things, I will have problems? I don't know.
I have other issues too. Digestion, skin, etc, and of course mental illnesses.
I'd like to get more involved with this community, if this is the right place for me. I need to talk through some of these things.
@lovingBanana5204 Yes, you're in the right place. We support those with chronic pain or chronic illness.
It's great that you have a caring family member, hopefully your entire family can be accomodating of one another.
Thank you @AffyAvo for replying!
