Fed up With Cyclical Recovery

In some parts of the forum, there's lots of talk about recovery in terms that it keeps going upwards. Sure, setbacks but there can be continual progress.

I'm frustrated that for me, that's not how it is. Is an attack or flareup and then recover from that - until the next time it happens. There's no working towards that not happening again, it's just not possible.

It sucks.

In my personal experience recovery is not a smooth and constant improvement but it does have a general upwards trend. My experience of 'recovery' has been that part of the long term journey is about putting certain protetive influences in place when I'm doing well to prevent relapse, and getting better at catching relapses early, so that over time they become less frequent and less severe. For some people mental illness is a breif single episode that they recover from and then forget about, like getting the flue. For many others it's more like diabetes, a chronic, treatable condition that requires management.

@KattPiper I would gladly trade all of my conditions for diabetes, sounds much more simple to manage!
