Disability and illness: can you see beyond the limit?
Hello everyone!
What about disablity/illness and every condition that have a physical impact?
* Do you see just the limit or do you see something more remarkable than that?
* If others see your condition like a limit, do you look at yourself same way?
* Do people always label your condition like a limit?
* What's the real limit then? The condition or someone's inability to look at people beyond their illness?
Here is what i think:
If someone could see just a limit in physical conditions, I can see the person's ability to get over it to face daily life because someone's ability/skill is defined by the difficulty of what they have to face, it's not merely a list of what people can do/achieve.
All the amazing human qualities someone may have are not taken away by conditions: they are proper of someone's way to be and personality.
I can certainly see the good things outside of my illnesses.
When it comes to my illnesses though, I don't really feel like I have gained much from them and for me they are basically putting limitations on my life. I think I view this especially as I have had good periods where they have not affected me so severely, so I can compare and while the periods in my life when I have been sicker I have learned some things out of ways to deal, I don't really attribute that as positive aspects of my illnesses.
My illnesses are all negative to me. The positive aspects come from how I have dealt with things at times - that's 'me' though, not the illnesses.
@BeyondTheInvisible of course my disability limits me in many things, but there is a lot more than my disability or limitations, I can see outside of it and move foward. I can find ways to palliate a disability. just by trying to find other ways to do things we can find more strengths and becoming very good in other things. our limitations push us to develop other skills that we are have outside of our disability. which is wonderful
@vivelespatates
That's good Vive, I am glad you find your ways!
What i wanted to point out was also to look at the fact that we do not need at all cost to have skills or specific abilities to feel we have a valor. But that's another concept.
@BeyondTheInvisible
thank you. I needed to hear that today. I am currently struggling to make myself understand this.
