One thing you hide to others even if they know about your disability
Hello everyone!!
Does it ever happen to you to hide about something even to those that know about your disability?
Maybe you hide to be in pain? Or tired?
..... i wait you all here to read and reply to your posts !

They know about my bad hearing, they don't get to know that I'm slowly going to lose it entirely.
@DaveMcGrath
Hello Dave!
So you find it difficult to share with people in your real life that you are slowly losing your hearing
I hope it is not giving you too much emotional pain.
Take care
@BeyondTheInvisible
I accepted it, the problem I find is others not accepting it.
@DaveMcGrath
That's why you hide it then, i see.
Sometimes we can not change situations, we can only decide how to react to them.
@DaveMcGrath
I completely understand how you feel. I am eighty percent deaf and losing more of my hearing everyday. For me it like me being in a library that is deafen from the silence and hearing some thing. It is volume that I can't control.

I don't mind the mechanics of being hard or hearing and having it get worst. I honestly don't like talking to people enough to feel like I'm missing out on much. Its when I talk to people and they are, "Ohhh that's terrrrrible.." that I take as a cue to politely exit the scene as quickly as possible.
The constant aches and pains. There's nothing that can be done about it so there's really no point in complaining.

Hello @tluper6491
Sorry for your pain, i understand what you mean when you say there is no point in complaining.
Although you can decide if sharing about it just because it is part of your life, can be something that is positive for you. The tone of our words can let things be perceived differently even when the topic is the same.
But i am sure you know what makes more sense for you, take care!
I would like to be able to better hide the fact that I am mild mental retardation because people make fun of my handicapped. I am laugh at, or treated as if I was crazy or not smart enough. I try to study up on things and watch people who socialize so that I can understand better and change that about me. Being mild mental retardation it control my life. I can't have a life of my own. I am treated like a baby. I am eighty percent deaf in both of my ears. People make fun of my speech so I stop talking because of the rude remark about how I talk I talk too low or shout out or I am told how bad my speech is. It has left me in tears
@selfconfidentTangerine1778
I'm sorry to hear that and to assume that so many people keep being so mean in life.
You are doing great in trying to understand and deal with the social context at best.
I would like you could still hope that you have chance to meet people that behave differently, there are bad and good ones in the world...it's all about to meet them
I wish you it can happen soon.
Please always take care of yourself !
Everything. I pretend Im fine all of the time. I hate pity and sympathy - all I really want is understanding. But everyone in my life cant get it and never will.
I hide the fact Im in pain every second of every day. I hide the depression and anxiety that has come with my illness. I hide the anger I have because still - after 4 years of tests and drs appointments - I still dont have a diagnosis or a name for whats wrong with me.
I dont ever bring up my illness because I cant deal with the self help advice, the comments and judging looks that I cant possibly be 20 and in that much pain or that tired. I must be really antisocial with a really bad attitude!!!
I dont even show it to my family, I cant deal with their sympathy. I am trying my hardest to continue like theres nothing wrong. But Im not sure how much longer I can!
i hide everything.
@BeyondTheInvisible
alot of things, when i have small tremors if they dont notice them, falls if they dont know about those cause they happen so often, i also try to not to tell them when having hard time walking.
@Autismaunt14
Hello!
You hide a lot then @Autismaunt14
Does your choice to hide help you in a way or does it make it worse?
@BeyondTheInvisible
Id say makes it worse, depression and anxiety both get a lot worse with the hideing.
@BeyondTheInvisible
I hide that sometimes I just can't do things so instead I feel pressure to agree to them and either have to set myself up to fail or backout on something I should not have agreed to initially
@BetterTogether101
Hello there!
Thanks for sharing!
Do you feel like others put you underpressure or is it the consequence of your choice for agreeing in doing something that you have to backout on later?
@BeyondTheInvisible
i think i put the pressure on myself to overcompensate---my having a disability is seen as being limited and i want to prove to myself that im not limited by not admitting i do have limitations as everyone does
@BetterTogether101
It's positive that you try to face it and i hope it helps you getting stronger! ![]()
I lost vision in my right eye in an accident. I can't drive anymore. So I often car pool.. people ask me about the scars on my face, but I change the topic.
