One thing you hide to others even if they know about your disability
Hello everyone!!
Does it ever happen to you to hide about something even to those that know about your disability?
Maybe you hide to be in pain? Or tired?
..... i wait you all here to read and reply to your posts !

i do sometimes as i dont want dem to be in tension
@JovialOne
I completely understand!
Sometimes I hide my "episodes" or "blackouts" if no one can tell the difference. I have a not so severe form of epilepsy and migraines. It's been like 4 years since I had a big seizure, but I have little auras or blackouts sometimes. Once in awhile my husband/family member/friend will notice, but most the time I just deal with it myself. I don't talk about it either unless someone notices.

Hello @TransAm85 !
Thanks for sharing about it, i hope you can face those moments quite well by your own.
Take care!
@TransAm85
I am sorry to hear that you are struggling. I completely understand how you feel.
@selfconfidentTangerine1778 It's embarassing! I don't like telling people about it b/c it just makes me feel like a total outcast. I know a lot of technical disabilities have become the norm, but I got this when I was 14, which was 1999. Back then, people w/disabilities were frowned upon. I still remember.
I hide my pain from others, especially my friends.
I know it's hard to deal with the thought that your loved one is hurting and you can't do anything about it.
I've lost friends because they couldn't handle it, which I fully understand and don't blame them for.
There are obviously days where I'll whine but unless they ask me how I'm doing, I try to keep shush.
@NordligSno
I'm sorry for your pain and it is so sweet that you think about others feeling bad for it because you know they care for you.
You are caring as much as they are, it's not easy to tell someone we love that we are in pain. It can be also an occasion to let them be closer and letting them be supportive, for what they can, could be all they really want to.
Take care!
@ilenia5
Yeah, I keep saying that they're helping way more than they realise simply by talking to and distracting me, which seems to ease their worries a little.
My bestfriends ask me daily to rate my pain, which really surprises me and makes me feel so very supported!
I hope you have a wonderful day.
@NordligSno
I am sorry to hear that you are struggling so much. I have a talking disorder. I talk too much. I am lonely.
I don't think of it as hiding, as most are invisible, but there are times where I simply don't mention my symptoms and just focus on whatever I'm doing with friends. I usually do tell my husband, but sometimes we'll be out doing something and he just assumes I'm feeling better if I seem to be doing better just because I'm focused on getting a tast done, enjoying an event, etc.
I hide my pain.
@TheresaWilliams
Hey Theresa, happy friday over there!
It must be hard to do that and keeping the pain without sharing your condition with anyone.
Hugs!
@ilenia5
It does become very difficult. My partner has learned to recognize the symptoms, but sometimes I lie, even to her, and tell her that I'm really ok. I don't know why I do that. It only hurts me.
@TheresaWilliams
Maybe it could help if you could see the reason why you do that. Do you maybe feel like you want to prevent her to feel sad for your condition? Do you maybe try your best to appear fine because you fear not to be a support for her when you would be one?
If you achieve awarness about your feelings and motivations, you sure can better decide if hiding your pain is worth it.
Thanks for sharing, best wishes !
@ilenia5
I guess that I just want to be normal. I don't want something to be "wrong." I don't want her to worry, or to try to fix me. She's good at wanting to fix me.
It just always seems like it's about me and my illness...
Thanks so much for talking to me! ❤️
My parents raised me as a child who didn't have disabilites. I guess I hide allot cause they don't understand it and I'm pay for it 33 years later.
@promisemehope
Hi promisemehope !
So it is a long time that you hide your disability.
How does that make you feel?
As far as I see it, I'm upset at losing "friends" that never really felt like friends and stopped contacting me over relaying my struggles or pain in my everyday life because they didn't want to hear it. But I seem to be caught also in a negative feedback loop where it really affects my life.
I hardly ever give specifics on the types of symptoms I get from sensitivity to light and how uncomfortable, depressed, and painful it is for me to be in the sunlight because everyone around me is laughing and smiling and glorifying the sun. I am bitter from my loss and their blissful privilege. I hide that I get dizzy sometimes or the symptoms are too much and have to close my eyes for a second or two at a time while walking, always wary of someone absorbed in their phone not paying attention and running into me or us almost walking into each other even when I walk a straight line. I don't talk about specifics to my teachers and I've stopped trying to tell most things to my parents, because there was a time that they didn't believe the seriousness of my symptoms, or they now just fall completely silent (or both), even though multiple psychologists have told them the nature of my disability.
I suffer from multiple health problems, but my arthritis and epilepsy is the worst. I'm 22 and I feel like every year, they find something new. I try to hide the pain from the arthritis and sometimes ill try to hide when I know a seizure is coming on. I don't want to burden people.
@beingasalinden
Hi!!
Sorry to hear about your pain, i understand what you mean sayng you do not want to be a burden.
I just hope you have, or will find, people that can support you and with whom you can open up if it makes sense for you.

Even if people know I have a disability, I dont like to tell people how much it really affects me on a day to day basis. Also that even if I look normal and healthy on the outside I may be sick or tired on the inside.
I often say that I'm okay and the pain isn't that bad because I don't want people to be worried, especially when I can't do something to make the pain less anyway.
