have you ever been discriminated due to your disability?
I haven't been discriminated because of my disability, but my disability has been discriminated by many because it I don't have it so severe as many do.
@sensibleOwl7079 Same here:-) I don't like it.
@sensibleOwl7079 , yes, its bad. a limitation or disability that limits you is annoying and a major obstacle. and it's not because "there is something worst" that your disability does not matter
@sensibleOwl7079 I can feel you. It would be nice if some people would be more open-minded.
@sensibleOwl7079
I am really sorry to hear that, I have a few friends who have unfortunately experienced the same :(
My mom calls me too high functioning to be in special Olympics but I fit the criteria to the letter. She always compares me to able bodied people. I don't like that. She is starting to truly understand how I feel. So that's a great thing:-) It sometimes hurts.
@happydandan it's a learning process for everyone. I'm glad your mom starts to understand how you feel about it. I know, it can hurt.
Hugely so i have:
Been told that i'll fail every qualification i've ever tried to take (I passed every single one)
Been told i'll never get a job
Was pushed down stairs at school
Had someone try and trip me under a bus at school becuase i 'walked funny'
Had someone throw my brother through a window because of where i parked my wheelchair at uni
Have had my wheels on my wheelchair slashed
Wheels taken off my mobility scooter
Had my office chair broken at college
Was abused becuase i didn't have a back pack and had to use a case with wheels
I was forced to be held back a year as college wouldn't make reasonable adjustments.
Even on here i have been told that i have encorouged suicide as i can trigger people by saying i'm on painkillers.
@Xstitcher
I hope you are alright having gone through all that
Threw your brother through a window? Slashed tyres and broke your chair?
I hope you can put those awful experiences behind you...... and that you never have to go through any more shit like that again
Forgot to mention the countless issues with public transport refusing to lower or wait for me to sit down before driving off.
I have invisable illness so that means people dont realzie I am disablied when I am and they think I am trying to get handouts and things like that
Hi! Guys...Im raspberry985 new here in community...I feel you..
I was diagnosed w/epilepsy in 2001 when I was 16. Back then, it was still kind of a foreign problem and people thought it was weird. So I got accustomed to doing everything possible to hide it. I went to college, had normal jobs, and drove. Now I see these days, it is common! Unfortunately, due to hiding my disability as best I could led to low self esteem and a type of shame, so now at 32 years old, I have developed issues w/anxiety, depression, and some panic. So to those of you who seem to be embarassed of your disability - Do Not! God made us all unique and with reason. You are special. :)
i have an invisible disability and people assume that because they dont see anything physically wrong with me that im making it all up.
Once my PE-teacher asked me in front of 50 other students, why my parents didn't tell her sooner, that I am disabled. That was the start of 2 years of peer abuse.
I asked my parents not to tell her. And they kept it a secret until the teacher started giving me really bad marks in P.E. Only then we told her, so I had da chance to get better grades and had a chance of going into high school.
@vivelespatates
Luckily, I have not and hope to never be!
