Coping when stuck at Home

It's not unusual to be stuck at home because of symptoms or difficulties with getting around.

What do you do to make being stuck at home a little better?

@AffyAvo

When Im home and stuck in bed I love to watch documentaries or sceince videos on youtube - I get quite bad brain fog so I can watch the same one 2 or 3 times before it all actually goes in lol It means I have a much bigger set of things I can watch because it doesnt matter if I have seen it before lol

If my hands arent too bad I enjoy cross stitching and video games (I am battling with Crash Bandicoot at the moment) as well as coming on here both as a listener and a member - often typing very very slowly

I generally stay in bed and have everything within arms reach - drinks snacks medications etc then I am pretty okay for the day :)

I live in residence at my university, so I rarely have to leave the building. It helps a lot, sometimes I just ask a friend to come over. I also have a rabbit here as an emotional support animal since there is a no pets policy. So my room can be a popular place to be, but everyone has to be quiet and calm if they want the rabbit to let you pet her. I really enjoy the distraction of having friends over.

That's so nice!

I am sure friends are welcomed and enjoy your company!

Here is a virtual quiet caress to your rabbit, then! heart

Cheers!!

1) Pets! They're such amazing emotional support.

2) Busying myself with everything I can (I try out new recipes, draw, redecorate my room, find cute videos of cats etc)

3) Writing/ Reading. It helps to let your mind explore a whole new world and just be creative! ^^

When I am stuck at home I normally play computer games if I feel up to it <3 sims hehe. When my migraines are really bad and I need to be in a dark room though I normally snuggle up in a dark room sleep and read/watch tv on a really low light.

Tips for reading with a migraine (I use kindle on my phone):
- Get an app for turning brightness down lower than system brightness allows (I use Lower Brrightness on android)
- Change the font to 'Open Dyslexic' as it makes the letters easier to read and more distinct.
- Turn the phone onto nightmode so that the screen is yellow tinted
- Increase the font size so its big and easy to read.
Huzzah! Even with my really bad migraines I can normally manage to read for a bit and stave off the bordom ahaha.

@AffyAvo

I create an a sanctuary for myself, a place where I always feel safe. Last year I was dealing with extreme fear and anxiety and I could never sit still and relax in my own home. But after working on my healing, I learned to create a safe place for me. Also, my faith is the root of my healing so praying and seeking God everyday. I always wake up to uplifting music and light candeles to change the athmosphere of the room. I do stretches in the morning. I write in my journal and the goals I want to accomplish in the day. I motivate myself, even for simple things like cleaning or creating projects. It keeps my mind focus and off of negative thoughts and emotions. In the past, I use to distract myself with a lot of video games, it was a way to escape from my problems, but I learned that it was just a temporary fix, I always felt empty in the end. I make an effort to enjoy my days now, enjoy quiet moments like cooking, drinking tea, and really listening to music and writing the lyrics down. I use to binge watch on Netflix, but I stopped doing that now and I just limit myself to one episode and really like be present when I'm watching it. And I stay away from social media like instagram, facebook, twitter because most of it doesn't do good for my healing and I end up comparing myself to other people and feeling sorry for myself. It takes a lot of effort to make life changes internly and create new habits. But I learned that the effort you put into your life, shows how much you care about yourself and your future.
