Coping when stuck at Home
It's not unusual to be stuck at home because of symptoms or difficulties with getting around.
What do you do to make being stuck at home a little better?
Hi, everyone!
In the last 5 years, I've been unable to go outside more than once a month. And even at home I can do little.
The best ways for me to entertain myself are playing videogames, watching videos (mostly funny stuff like Achievement Hunter let's plays or other Rooster Teeth videos) or tv series or sometimes movies, listening to music while drawing (although that's very rare), and spending time with my fiance and friends (*when I have friends) talking or doing things together.
In cause you're interested, to make it as least painful and exhausting as possible:
> I keep my volume always lower than 15%, usually between 8% and 15%, or 5% on bad days. But of course, the volume also depends on the device and headphones / earbuds / speakers.
> I wear headphones whenever I use my pc or phone, so that outside noises won't make things worse, and sometimes even when I'm not listening to anything. But I always make sure my headphones aren't too tight or I would hurt my ears and head.
> I take several breaks, usually around every 20 minutes, doing nothing and just sitting on a comfy chair in silence.
> I keep a big water bottle (so that I can drink whenever I need to without always getting up) and dry food (like crackers, cookies, or cereal; just in case I'm hungry and too weak to go cook immediately) on my desk. I make sure I don't drink from the water bottle and always change my cup (or wash it properly) at least every day - ideally twice a day or every few hours.
> I turn all lights off and leave only a small desk lamp on, especially when using my pc, so that my eyes won't hurt.
> I make every screen slightly yellow to avoid tiring my eyes and getting just one more problem to worry about.
> I always keep my phone on vibrate, as it'll be enough for me to notice it when I'm awake but usually not enough to wake me up, and bring it everywhere I go in case I need to call someone for help.
> I often make lists and set reminders on the alarm clock on my phone
> When I talk to others, I keep my voice down so that they're likely to do the same, to prevent headaches from getting worse.
Sorry for the long answer. I probably said more than needed, but I hope this helped you or others.
If anyone who sees this needs more tips or info or anything at all, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help :)
@lonelyandsickFede Lots of really great suggestions in here to try when things can become overstimulating, thanks!
@AffyAvo :) Glad I kinda helped
@lonelyandsickFede definitely very informative ty for sharing :)
@CaringBrit :)
these are great suggestions!
I do a lot of crafts and writings. I keep drawing and writing journals as well as personal diaries. I write letters to loved ones and knit, cross stitch, and sometimes paint. On good days Ill organize a set of drawers and get rid of things I dont need. Ill play games on my phone or find an interesting book or audiobook to dive into.
I have a hard time being stuck at home...
@stacy46 Hopefully some of the things posted here will help you.
@AffyAvo Thanks.
i spend alot of time watching tv when im home
@caringShoulder14 Sometimes I feel like it's too much, but it certianly helps the time go by faster!
@AffyAvo I agree it sometimes makes the time pass faster but it can also be very boring if I do it too long
everyone who has shared what they do while stuck at home awesome things from hobbies to watching tv etc quite a few of these I do when I myself get stuck it sure does prevent boredom
to add I use this site I volunteer online as struggle daily to keep to a schedule in a voluntary position outside the home due to my own health so I understand how each and every one of you feel its tough but you don't have to endure this alone you have us here :)
I'm not a huge fan of being at home. But I like taking a shower, reading or writing. Working out or yoga.
