Thoughts about alternative medicine

I know that we are in a group with a lot of different conditions, but I want to ask you about your opinions about other types of healing that are not close to our modern medicine system. I read a lot of things about alternative medicine in my journey with disability (I have chronic pain duo to degenerative disc diseases and arthritis, I'm 26) and I don't know what to think. I read about meditation, the placebo effect, medicinal plants, spirituality, etc, but I don't think I can put this in my life as a daily practice because I'm very confused. Sometimes I think I'm too locked in the way of thinking that doctors put me, but sometimes I think it would be more healthy to just let go other types of medicine and just accept the system that we have.

What do you guys think?

While there are herbs that have medicinal properties, they can occasionally interact with medications in a not so good way. I am a spiritual person, I have medicinal herbs that I've researched and utilize, but I also work with my doctors to make sure that I'm not accidentally damaging myself.

I use prescribed painkillers for fibromyalgia pain, because they're more effective and concentrated than a plant. I supplement my anxiety medication with tea made from lemon balm, lavender, and chamomile. When I get my period, I drink tea made from raspberry leaf. Meditation is good for the anxiety and depression that accompanies chronic pain, but body mindfulness might just make you hyperaware of each individual ache and pain.

My recommendation is to try it, but be cautious and take each option with a grain of salt. Nothing is going to be a magical fix-all, but it can make things easier for you. Do your research on drug interactions before self-medicating with herbs.

I can say that I didn't have much luck with them. I tried many things until I came to the conclusion that I was just wasting a lot of money.

I would like to add that restorative yoga (yoga nidra) is excellent for relaxation and bringing down anxiety. It's really amazing. Find a quiet room and set aside 20 minutes. Search on Youtube for yoga nidra and play one of the sessions. You will feel its like meditation and there are no yoga poses to do. You simply lay there in comfort and go through the session listening to the speaker. I tried CBD oil for anxiety and it did nothing. Hope that helps
