Degenerative Disc Disease
I have that and it sucks a lot. I'm in pain all the time. I'm only 21. And my muscles and bones hurt all the time.
I remember when I was 17 I was told that this disease has the potential to put you in a wheel chair. I'm not there yet. But it hurts so much. Sure does make life harder.
Does anyone else have this ?
Hey @HalliwellSister, I too have degenerative disc disease. I agree, it is something that is discouraging and even the name of it just sounds scary. But it is not something that needs to stop us...even if it does slow us a little.
How long have you been dealing with the chronic pain from it? And where in your spine do you have the most issues? I've got issues in the lumbar spine for the most part, and have dealt with chronic pain for about 4-5 years. Do you have a physiotherapist that you are working together with to help ease the pain, and keep yourself moving? I've got numerous stretches and exercises I'm doing to try and heal from another injury to my back, and I will do my best to continue on with these, as I am hoping they'll help in slowing any progression with this disease.
Anyway...just thought I'd reply and let you know you're not alone, I understand your thoughts and fears in regards to this. Hugs...
Hey there! I am sorry to hear that you have it too :( Yes the name is scary! I hav been dealing with it for five years now.I have most issues in the top part of my spine, near the shoulders, right side.
Ah lumbar spine sounds painful. I am sorry to hear that you have dealt with it for about the same amount of time as me
No I currently don't have anyone. But I have done physical therapy with a chiropractor and some type of shots and that was nice... I tried cervical steriod injections due to a spine fracture but that was not lasting effects. I think losing weight would probably help me since I do have a lot of that and I have a scheduled appointment with a dietician to work towards that.
Sorry to hear about the injury on your back but I am glad that you have a lot of things that you are trying and are working on them. Which stretches/exercises are those?
Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone!
@Moj
@HalliwellSister I hope that working together with the dietician might help you. It can be so hard to keep a healthy diet when you have no energy to make healthy foods because you're dealing with that constant pain all the time. I hope that the dietician will give you some strategies and resources that will make things easier and more manageable for you. I'm working towards a healthier weight as well, as the bit off extra I have may have an effect on it, I'm not sure. However my main source of trouble comes from my work. I am in childcare and the constant bending, lifting, twisting and carrying really are not doing anything great for my back unfortunately. I'm hoping I'll manage to stay in child care long term, but I know it's likely a profession I'm going to have to get out of before I'm ready due to my physical limitations.
The stretches and exercises I'm doing now are mainly for the piriformis muscle...trying to loosen things up and lessen the inflammation going on there, and make whatever is going on with my discs and nerve root ease up so that I have less pain in my back, hip and leg. Some days it seems to be working...other days it's discouraging, because it's so painful and I feel like I'm back at square one again. I guess it'll just take continued dedication, and hopefully soon things will start looking a little better for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway...
@Moj
i hope things start to look a little better for you. 🙂 Childcare sounds nice but definitely hard on you when you have pain. I'm sorry to hear that you might not be able to make it long term.
And definitely when you're in pain it's hard to really make anything. You just want food and be out and about. I see her on Tuesday !
