Please take good care of yourselfs (everyone). Senses once damaged, are difficult to recover. Some may not even recover. Do not regret when it is too late.
@mikenai22 such a true statement, thanks for sharing

I received bilateral hearing aids two weeks ago. Amazing all the sounds. I didn't realize all I was missing😀
@mutter3
where do I go to get a hearing aid test ?
@mutter3 I'm glad they made a difference for you!
If you're experiencing hearing loss, go to the doctors to get diagnosed. Don't rely on medical websites.
@thoughtfulLychee9280 so true! But sometimes articles, like this one, help us realize we might be experiencing it and help make us aware of the issue. Do you suffer from hearing loss?
@Jill7cups Yeah it does help spread awareness. But sometimes, things we read we tend to exaggerate or fool ourselves into thinking we have these cause we diagnosed ourselves so it can become like phantom symptoms. I'm hearing impaired yes. I was born deaf.
@thoughtfulLychee9280 this is so true and something we should all keep in mind when reading symptom lists.
As someone who was born deaf what do you wish people knew? What is a way us as a society could better support you when you need to communicate with people who do not know sign language?
@Jill7cups
I would hope that people are more patient, understanding and open minded. Realise there are other ways to communicate with a deaf person, realise that not facing us can make it difficult to pick up whats been said. And not consider cause He/shes deaf, that she is not useful to society or an organisation. I would expect society to put captioning when there are voice announcements especially on trains, youtube videos and even in the cinemas.
Yes, Yes, and Yes. I am on my 3rd pair of hearing aids. All of these. I didn't really hit too much denial about my hearing loss because I've known since I was a kid that it was probably in store for me, because of heredity and my occupation. Also, because my 2nd husband wouldn't shut up about it (he's now ex). I especially noticed how exhausted I was, trying to fill in the gaps, that I limited my social events. But other adults I've spoken with are in DEEP denial about it. They will swear up and down that everybody is mumbling. Breaking through someone's denial can be next-to-impossible, which is unfortunate because the longer one waits before correcting the loss, the less likely the atrophied auditory nerve will come back. I am a part of reducing the stigma of age-related hearing loss.
