Removing the stigma: bulimia nervosa.

Hello all, I am a new listener here at 7CupsOfTea and I want to begin my time here by trying to break down the social stigma that largely shrouds bulimia nervosa. This is an issue very close to my heart, as I am currently fighting against bulimia myself. I feel that bulimia is more of a 'taboo' subject than anorexia, though I am not entirely sure why this is. It is my intention to encourage people to share their stories here, in this thread, so that we may all feel less alone in battling through this horrendous illness.

Thanks for reading. I hope that you all have a wonderful day!

@voyagetohavingneweyes - Hi there and welcome! I think this is definitely an important topic, and I've moved your post into our eating disorder support forum. :)

I totally agree with this and feel like the stigma for all eating disorders should be assessed. It is more than the food, and the general public don't normally understand it.

I am new to 7cups as well...and am in recovery from bulimia nervosa and anorexia. My experience has been long and messy, however it's condition roots from coping with the loss of my childhood. I believe that on some ground, everyone can relate to the sense of growing up and change. Some people handle change better than others but in the end, change is painful.

@voyagetohavingneweyes

Thank you for putting that out there for people. Bulimia I feel is even less talked about than Anorexia. They both are hard things to deal with. I have Anorexia but I purge too. So I get some of the issues people with bulimia have.

With love,
