Has Anyone Here Been Skinny Shamed? I feel alone about this.

Body shaming. Chances are, a lot of us have gone through this. All forms of body shaming suck, and there is no excuse for putting others down because they look a certain way. however, what i wanna talk about today is Skinny Shaming in particular. being called a "bag of bones" "unhealthy" anorexic" "disgusting."( and of course being called the infamous skinny b*tch) When all about that bass came out,my plus sized friend told me it was about "skinny b*tches like you". People blame skinny teens for affecting plus sized peoples self esteem. But is it really our fault that we were born into a society where it was indoctrinated that skinny=beautiful? I've had my fair share of self esteem issues that, when vocalised, were dismissed as "attention seeking", because apparently skinny people don't have insecurities. When i look in the mirror on bad days, I still see myself as either too fat or too skinny. is it really fair to insult us naturally skinny people for being the way we are? I've always felt alone about this topic and it would mean the world to me if you guys could share your experiences. as always, I'm just a PM away heart

I have definitely been skinny shamed by people, sometimes strangers and sometimes family members. I just wish people would mind there own business. I'm skinny, but at least I'm skinny and healthy and happy, so I wish people would not make comments and rude judgements about how I look.

I worked hard to lose a lot of weight (healthily) after I quit bulimia. I was a large(r) bulimic - and then I became a small(er) health(ier) person. Once I lost the weight, many of my "friends" made comments to me nearly endlessly about how I should eat more, how I was too skinny, etc. I don't know how many of them knew I used to be bulimic and still struggled with binge eating and overeating. Their comments I allowed to make me feel "justified" when I binged. Anywho, the comments themselves were likely neutral enough, but they weren't said in a supportive way / I didn't feel supported. I felt, from some of the women, jealousy or competition, and I felt, from some of the men, jealousy as well (I was "taken", had a boyfriend). To be honest, I still feel really confused about what a healthy weight is. At the size I feel is natural or healthy for myself, when I am eating healthily, I tend to get comments like this from people. And at a size I feel bogged down in, and eat junk food or binge in, (for me it's still kind of the same - hard to eat junk food w/o eating a whole lot of it), people tend to ignore me or leave me alone.

I used to be extremely underweight, now just barely. It took me six consecutive burgers and a very lazy summer last year to finally get out of the "non-existent" size 0. I still fit it but I prefer size 1. To some people, when I say that, they feel very offended but time and time again, I've tried to explain our body differences and how it's okay. Still, people look at me like, "wth you still look fragile". Just because I hide the fat well, it doesn't mean it's not there or that I don't get hurt when they disregard how glad I am to no longer be a 0. Why was I even so ridiculously happy? Because everyone has told me, I should gain weight. Just because everyone assumes I still have my quick metabolism, all the leftovers get pushed to me. I already eat a lot. I even snack a lot! Yet to everyone else it's not enough. I have to eat more and more because the perfect body isn't between a size 0-2. It's gotta have curves and whatnots. #justranting

My dad and grandma have rudely commented on my thinness and even called me anorexic a few times.

Yes, I have, and I've always hated being skinny. I'm trying to get over that, I want to love myself the way I am, because yes, I've tried eating a lot, at different hours of the day, many full meals and whatnot... it just doesn't work. The fact that all of my cousins and most of my friends are... curvy... doesn't help. But I'm working on it. :)

My heart goes out to all of you posting in this thread, victimised by skinny shaming. No type of body shaming is okay, but this type in particular resonates with me, so please know that you're not alone. Do know that regardless of what anyone else says, your own worth is not defined by the shape or size of your body - that's defined by you as a person. I'm a message away if any of you need support, here if you need me. You each are so so wonderful.

Yeah I have and I'm not even that skinny, apparently I have no butt and no boobs which is all true, most of my fat goes to my stomach and my thighs and not where I actually want it to go.

Even when people aren't being outright critical, I feel like I'm not allowed to complain about my body. Since I have an """"ideal""" body type (at least according to the media), I'm not supposed to feel bad about my appearance, because someone has it worse than me.

People say "thigh gaps are unhealthy". I hate that. I'm a small person. My natural weight is just above underweight on a bmi chart. It's like that no matter how well or badly I eat. My asian family is always telling me to eat more, but that's a cultural thing so I try not to take it personally. I had a health insurance company call & ask my parents if I was a sick little kid when they tried to get me covered. My dad had to tell them that no, I was a healthy vibrant little kid who just hopped off a mountain bike. Because I'm skinny, people think I'm being superior when I tell them that greasy foods make me nauseous, but acutally I'm a little jealous of their plate of fried chicken. I can only have one piece before I'm a little sick to my stomach.

@ZeroAndOne I can totally relate my dads side is South American and he was one of four children. Some nights they went to sleep hungry. I used to eat "normally" whatever that means since it's different for everyone. I have been told I must be anorexic point out that my arms didn't reach my torso and that I was a twig. Now all I should say on here is I used to eat normally

When I was in high school I weighed 98 pounds & several times people would ask me if I was anorexic (I wasn't, just had a high metabolism) & of course there was always people telling me I needed to eat (I did, like crazy, once again high metabolism lol). It never bothered me much but now I've had a kid. Went from 98 pounds to 139 to 120 & so of course now it's noticeable & people ALWAYS make the most hurtful comments. I was never really skinny shamed but for all those who are, I'm sorry. :(
