Hi i am a 44 year old female that started a year ago throwing up. Sorry if it triggers anyone.  I just cant lose the weight though. I am such a fat pig. I feel so horrible for my son he is 17 and is probably embarrassed of me. Because i look like this. I didnt think older adults can suffer from stuff like this. I guess so...

@purpleAcres9707 Hello! It sounds like you are going through a difficult time with weight struggles and body image issues. Feeling like a "fat pig" can bring up painful emotions. Understandably, you want to lose weight but remember, your worth isn't defined by your appearance. You deserve kindness and compassion, regardless of your size.

@ASilentObserver Your words hit me hard, especially when you said, "Your worth isn't defined by your appearance. You deserve kindness and compassion, regardless of your size." Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes. What actionable steps would you recommend for moving towards recovery, if any?

hey, its okay <3 I understand you are uncomfortable about your weight and body image, but it's not who you are and shouldn't matter to you and those who love you. I know its hard, but sometimes its your own insecurities and it may not matter to your son who cares about and loves you as a person, regardless of your weight.

Does it help to eat healthier rather than avoiding food? Perhaps you could consult a nutritionist or psychologist?
And of course, anyone can have mental health struggles <3

Take care :) hope things improve for you <3

I've been thinking about your post and how much you are struggling with your weight and how you feel about yourself.

I've felt like that before as well, and it's really difficult to recognize that sometimes there are multiple reasons that come into play with our bodies and weight.  For example, our body make up, heredity, a particular medication that impacts weight, as well as even the reduction of food to an extreme can put our body into a starvation cycle where it begins to store everything which instead of losing we can gain weight.

Do you have any support in your life to help you as you are working on your weight and your thoughts about yourself?  It can be easier to have someone who gets where you are.  Perhaps a support group or mentor?

Something I found really helpful at one point was meeting with a dietitian who understood eating disorders to learn what a serving size was and what foods were helpful and what foods I could substitute when I really didn't like certain foods.

I'd love to hear how you are doing.
