Hey I
@parisrichardson01

hi..been coping with anorexia now way over 35 years ( recovery though for over twenty years ) mine was triggered by doctors though, saying to my parents when i was younger that its best for me health wise ( i had major surgery when i was in elementary school )..soo growing up was placed on restricted diet, very little calories..which to this day when really stresed i still restrict myself on food intake.
@tealFriend9070 - Welcome! I'm glad that you're here - it's amazing how what someone says or does can still affect us years later, but it's so true. I hope that you find support and empathy here and that talking about those experiences can help them have less power over you. *hugs*
Hello, my name is Finn. I am trans FTM, so he/him pronouns, please. I am recovering from anorexia nervosa. I have gained a lot of weight, but the reoccurring thoughts still haunt me.
@amicableRaspberries5100 - Welcome, Finn! It can definitely be hard to ditch those thoughts, even when your body is mostly recovered, but it is possible with time. Do you notice any patterns to when they come up or when they are quietest? What helps to combat those thoughts or to drown them out with more positive messages?
For me, I found it helpful to think of those thoughts as coming from the ED voice, as opposed to the thoughts from the Healthy Anomalia voice and focus on figuring out who was talking when a thought came up. Once I could tell it was an ED thought, not a HA thought, it was easier to drown it out with something more positive.
Feel free to message me if you ever need any extra support through your recovery! :)
Hi there, my name is Malika. Ive been struggling with dieting and body image since 7th grade. I decided that i need tl change my relationship with food and have a healthier lifestyle
@N16 - Welcome, Malika, I'm really glad you're here! It can be hard and scary to start to break away from the eating disorder behaviors, but you've already made two really big steps by deciding that it's time and reaching out for support here, and I'm really proud of you for that! What do you think the next step is? How can we best support you through this? You're always welcome to reach out if I can support you in any way. Take care!
Hey, Im Sofia. Ive been struggling with anorexia for a few years now, and Im happy for anyone to vent to me when theyre feeling particularly bad.
@Sofology - Hi Sofia, and thanks for such a kind offer! I love how supportive this community is :) How are you doing with your own recovery? Is there any way that we can help support you, too? Take care!
Hi there,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right section but I have binge eating disorder.
I'e had enough of it now and really want to recover and become healthier and strong. I'll accept any help and friendship offered x
@CrazyCupCakes - You are absolutely in the right section, and welcome! :) I would love to help support you in your recovery and you are welcome to reach out to me any time. It's not easy, but it's absolutely possible and I believe that you can do it. And you've already taken the first two major steps by deciding it's time for a change and reaching out for support!
To I'm Kaylee and I have anorexia and I don't know what to do. Help
@Mentallyinsae95 - Hi Kaylee, and welcome! It can be scary and hard to know what to do when you realize you've got a problem, but I think reaching out here was a really brave first step, and I would love to help support you in recovery. I think often a great way to start is to think about what small steps you can start to take - rather than trying to set the bar too high so it's unachievable, make lots of small steps towards a bigger goal. What is one thing you can do today to move in a healthier direction? Maybe it's having just a little bit more to eat at one meal or adding in a small snack. Maybe it's facing a fear food that you wouldn't normally. Maybe it's talking to a friend or a family member about struggling. Try to pick something, however small, and take that step. You can do this!
Hi! I'm Hani and I'm 17 years old. I started loosing weight by the healthy way. Then one of my teachers called my anorexic in front of my whole class. She also talked to my mom. At the time I know I did not had an eating disorder. A few rumors spread around about me, everyone always watched what and how I ate. I guess that pushed me in a bar way. I started counting calories, and every waking minute I was thinking about food and weight loss. I became addicted to the number on the scale dropping down. A few weeks ago my little sister asked me, to help her loose weight and how I'm supposed to tell her, that I starved myself, purged and worked out until I passed out?. I feel so ashamed of myself. I decided to get help because of my sister, but I know I can't talk to my mum about it, yet.
@GozonHani hey hani, I'm sorry that your teacher did that to you, that really does stink. No one should have such a personal aspect of themselves scrutinized in front of others like that. I'm glad you're trying to recover for the sake of your little sister, you sound like a great sister :)
@GozonHani youll be ok once you grow up. People often grow out of their eating disorders. I did. My friends did. Just wait. Learn. Read. Do things you love. Love others. Get away from it. Youll be okay, kid.
@Annasear - That is sometimes true, but not everyone does grow out of it on their own and I think that often recovery can come much faster and with much less pain by getting help early rather than waiting it out. I know for me, I battled for 10 years before finally getting the support I needed to recover and if I had started sooner, I could have saved myself a lot of pain and missed opportunity. I strongly encourage people to reach out for help sooner and to fight for their recovery. We all deserve health and happiness.
@GozonHani - Hi Hani, I'm really glad you're here! I can definitely relate to how easy it is to slip quickly into that obsession without realizing it, and I know it's a big step to decide it's time to climb back up and to reach out here. I also know that recovery can be pretty scary and hard to do, but that it is possible. I would love to support you as you work through that and if you ever want to reach out, you're welcome to.
I think a great way to start can be to think about what one small step forward you can make today is. It doesn't need to be something huge, but something that turns the direction around and moves you a little closer to health. What do you think yours could be?
Hi guys!
Hope you're doing well today.
I'm new here and I'm new to recovery. Basically I've had body image issues my whole life. I can't remember a time where I didn't think I wasn't fat, even as a kindergartener. Within the latter half of the year I realized that I could lose weight by restricting my calories, so I've done that to the point of losing enough to lose my period. That scared me, since I didn't want the negative health consequences from that. So I've started to eat again.
Problem is, I have no idea how to be moderate! I keep binging now. A lot of it is stress and anxiety induced, from school. It's not a healthy coping mechanism and I know this, but idk how to stop.
I'm honestly so obsessed with food. I'm obsessed sometimes with restricting, with eating too much, with cooking and even talking about it. It rules my life and it's really only doing me a disservice.
I feel like my relationship w food and my self image is just so damaged, but i want to work on recovering. I want to work on leading a life where I have a healthy mindset towards food. One where it is not an obsession.
Thanks for listening friends and if you ever feel like you need someone to talk to my PMs are open!!
@anywhomst ok wow sorry I posted this in the wrong thread! Sorry I'm a newbie :((
@anywhomst - You absolutely posted in the right forum and I'm really proud of you for reaching out! I think it's not uncommon for people who struggle with one eating disorder to over time find themselves struggling with a different one, and you're absolutely right that it can be really hard to find moderation and break out of the unhealthy relationship with food. But I also think it's absolutely possible.
To me, there are two parts of working through an eating disorder. One is the physical and the symptom side - letting your body heal, learning what a healthy portion looks like, and working on moderating what you're eating. The other is the mental and emotional side - learning what is sitting beneath the eating disorder that makes you turn to these habits (whether starving or binging) and how to build healthier coping mechanisms to replace the eating disorder behaviors. And I think that working on both is important to really recovering.
I would love to help support you as you work towards recovery and you are always welcome to PM me if you want to talk! Be well :)
@anywhomst Hey I'm sorry you're going through this! It's really difficult but just know that taking the first step to recover is totally worth it and although I'm still in the process myself, I'm starting to see it. Message me anytime :)
Hello,
I think I've had an eating disorder for a while but I've only just realized a few months ago. I still haven't told my family and I'm starting to get better about it. I've set goals for myself but I still slip upsometimes. I know my triggers and I'm trying to get better about everything.
@Moonflower335 - I'm really proud of you for recognizing the problem and starting to work towards goals to heal. It's natural to slip sometimes - that's very much a part of the recovery process - but what's most important is that you don't let those little slips turn around your progress, but instead get back on track and keep moving forward.
If you could ever use any extra support, you are more than welcome to reach out to me. Take care and keep up the awesome work! <3
