Hi, I'm new here. I've recently decided to leave pro ana community to join this one which can help me be more focused on my recovery goals instead of being destructive. Hope to find support here!

@HopeHappiness1998 - I just saw this post now and wanted to say how amazing I think it is to make the decision to shift from a community that can be destructive to your recovery goals towards one focused on supporting that recovery. It's not an easy decision, I imagine, but such a big step! <3

hello i am new to this and have not been diagnosed but I have spend all day watching fitness videos and food videos and being hyperaware of every calorie thats entered my body and for a long time I thought I wasn't bad enough to have an eating disorder because I know many people have more severe cases than I do that can be life-threatening but I think this obsession has become too intrusive to not ask for help

Hi, I'm new here too. I just wanted to say I'm very proud of you for reaching out! It's such a difficult thing to do. But if I can give my two cents here I'd say one of the first things I learned that helped start my recovery was that I can't compare my illness with others. Mental illness is different for everyone even if it has the same label. When I started to notice that my behaviours and obsessions weren't like other people's I still thought there's nothing wrong because I'm not as bad as so and so or whatever. But when I took a step back and got out of my own way I realised my behaviours were detrimental to myself and therefore bad enough to seek help. Just because you perceive someone else to be "worse" doesn't mean they are, they're just different than you. Accepting you need help is a huge step, well done. I wish you all the luck in the world and I know you can get on to the road of recovery!

@josephinemarch - I love this! I think you're absolutely right about how easy it can be to slip into comparisons of our struggles with someone else's, but ultimately, in my mind, anything that is impacting your life negatively - whether big or small - deserves attention and support, and I hope that you and the other new members in this community find it here <3

Hi there, I'm new to 7 Cups and am not very tech savvy. I'm looking for some help and people to talk to but I'm having trouble understanding what's going on. How do these forums work and how do they help people? Is there anywhere that people can share and discuss issues and relate to each other? Any info would be very helpful! Thank you.

@josephinemarch

Welcome to the community <3

Heya, there's different subforums with thread topics in the ED subcom. You can find other people's posts that you relate too and comment or you can start your own thread. You can also reach out to adult listeners. I am a teen so I can't pm you but we can chat here by tagging each other in the post.

The adult side also does ED group discussion chats. Here's the schedule post for times & dates of the discussions HERE

Here's a pic of the Eating Disorder Support Community Leader board - lots of those adult leaderships are experienced in ED and the community. There's adult listeners on the list you can private message for help with navigating the site too

I don't really have a severe eating disorder, it's just that everytime I eat, there's a thought that goes through my head that says, "that's gonna show up on the scale tommorow". I've been finding myself having to look at every food package to see how many calories are in it. I have un-idealistic expectations of myself that I know are bad for me. I cringe everytime I look in the mirror. Half of me wants to not eat and lose weight fast.The other half (which I know is the rational side) says that I'm a teenager, and I'm already considered thin. I have a fast metabolism. It says that if I exercised I could get fit and gain a faster metabolism. But even if I do know the mental and physical risks of an ED sometimes I still wonder if it would be easier.

@starsabove7303 - To me, the severity isn't the important bit to getting support - if something is getting in your way or having negative effects, it warrants support no matter how serious it is or isn't.

And I definitely can relate to those feelings about sometimes thinking that it might just be easier to let go and let the ED be in control - I've had that feeling and to some degree maybe it was even easier, but it certainly wasn't worth it. The damage is causes - not just to your body, but to relationships, emotions, goals, etc. is pretty devastating and it's only harder to repair if it's not dealt with early.

I hope that you find support here to help you stick on a path of health
