Hello, I'm new here.

I am not diagnosed, but recently I've been throwing up again and being extremely worried about my body and weight and it is causing me a lot of disress. I worry that I might have an ed so I thought that by talking with people who are also fighting against bad urges I could get better at doing so too. I hope the message wasn't too long or pretentious or stuff like that.

@clumsycricket - I'm really glad you're here and I think that your message was great! It can be tough without a diagnosis to know where things stand, but to me, if it's causing issues in your life - no matter how big or small - it's something worth getting support on and I'm glad you're being proactive about finding support here! :)

I've had binge eating disorder for about ten years, I've only tried to do something about it for the last six months. I've been doing really well with the support of my loving boyfriend. I haven't had a real binge in probably two months. So I thought I was getting a handle on it but my boyfriend has had to go out of town for five days. And I lost it. First thing I did was get food. I had no control but at the same time I had it planned in my head. I was waiting for the relief of a binge. What's wrong with me?? How can I have so much control when he's around but then none as soon as he leaves?? I feel sick and guilty and awful.

@josephinemarch - First of all, I'd like to give you a big *hug* if you're okay with it. It can be unbelievably frustrating to feel like you're moving forward and then have a big setback. But I also believe that this is all that was - a setback. Binging when he was gone didn't undo all the days that you didn't binge. Each of those days still counts as a victory. And each of those days still built your tools for how to fight this. Setbacks are a part of recovery, but you can get back on track.

What can you learn from this? One thing that it sounds like to me is that having your boyfriend's support in person has been really important for you. If he has to go somewhere again, what do you think you could try to help make that absense not have this effect? Is there someone else who could be around? Could talking to him about those urges help? Are there coping mechanisms that might help you fight those urges without him there?

@WitchyMomma - Welcome! I'm really glad you're here - I also had a very long battle with eating disorders starting in my teens and lasting into adulthood (and am now about 5 years into recovery). The struggles can feel endless sometimes, but I think reaching out for support is a really important first step. My next question for you - what's the next step you can take? Big or small, what is one thing you can do today to move towards recovery?

Hi all!

I'm new here and just thought I would check this place out. I'm am currently off of work because of my eating disorder and find myself having to much free time to ruminate on everything so I thought maybe having a forum to express myself in would help. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Hey everyone. I'm new here, and I'm pretty shy talking in new places (even online) but I'm trying to break away from the more harmful ED forums that I'm used to being on.

@thetys - I'm really proud of you for making the decision to try to break away from the harmful forums and shift to seeking support instead. I know it's not easy to talk about sometimes, but I think that it's a big step to have reached out here and I hope you find the support you're looking for. For me, when I first started going to support groups, I often found it hard to talk, but still found a lot of value in hearing what others said - either because it gave me ideas for my own recovery or because it put into words something I was feeling but struggling to say - there's no right or wrong way to use these forums (well, except I guess being unsupportive to someone else would be the wrong way, but no right or wrong amount to talk vs. listen, seek support vs. support others, etc.), and whatever you find most helpful here is great. And if 1-1 chats seem more your thing, you're always welcome to message me or any other listener here :)

Hello,

so ive recently started not eating again. Well, not eating as much. I went from constantly eating to eating about one cup of food every day. Some days I dont even eat. I want to start eating normally again but Im scared that once I eat, Ill gain weight and binge like I usually do after I dont eat for a period. Im scared to eat but Im scared not to eat. I want to lose weight hence why I stopped eating (also because of depression). Im stuck and I dont know what to do.

Sorry to hear that you're struggling with food restriction right now. Has any recovery strategy helped you before in the past when you struggled with food restriction? WHat does your support network look like right now? Is there a way you can build up your support network by reaching out to family and friends? Proud of you for sharing about your struggle on here and welcome to the eating disorder support community *sending some extra support your way*
