Family problems
Hi everyone. I have been having an ongoing battle with my mother lately over the fact that I am 21 and she limits my rights too much. I have a new boyfriend and have been with for 51 days. She wont let me see him more than four out of seven days a week and I have to stay in the house all day for each of the three remaining days. I can't even do applications or go the school for homework. The longest I spent with him was from 11 am yesterday to 10 pm only because it was Halloween. I went trick or treating with him which I haven't done since 15 because she has harassed me about it because I'm too old. I am 21 and feel like a prisoner on my own house.

Hello,
I can see why you would feel upset by this. I would be too, if I were in your shoes. Boundaries are very important. It must be tough feeling like a prisoner in your own home. Have you discussed setting boundaries with her?💜
@Sugarnspice7890
Sometimes it can be difficult setting boundaries with parents who don't believe in them. A lot of parents believe that because they are the parent, the child is always subordinate, no matter how old they get. Especially with female children. I'm experiencing the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice, her grip on my life loosened with time as I got older and gained more independence. Sometimes biding your time is all you can do.
I am here to listen!
That feeling is all to familiar, unfortunately. I am sorry you are going through this. I am here to listen!
@Sugarnspice7890 I’m so sorry hun! I’m going through the exact same thing with my parents. It’s so hard setting boundaries and expressing how you feel because all they really care about is that they’re the parents and what they say goes. I wish I could give advice but I hope everything gets better for you soon!! 🤍
@Sugarnspice7890 So very sorry to hear this.
I hope things get better for you.
If you ever need support or just want to chill or vent, 7cups has Group Support Rooms.
Were members come to support each other, some come to vent, others come to chill, and some come looking for support.
Just thought I would point that out to.
I hope this helps some.
I hope to see you, in the support rooms sometime.
Have a great day.
