I hate my father.
I have a complicated relationship with my father. I can tolerate him but it's hard to be in the same room as him. I get uncomfortable everytime he's in the vicinity. His presence is just unbearable to me. He thinks it's ok to yell at us when he's mad, he gets angry easily and he says the meanest things when he is. He's called us (my siblings and I) worthless, lazy and good for nothing on several occasions. He hits our dogs and he even used to hit us when we were younger. My mother tells me to just let him be because that's just how he is but I CAN'T stand him.

Hey Teal,
Based on what you have shared, your feelings are valid and it's understandable that you may feel this way. I'm sorry the he acts this way 'because that's just how he is' and that your mother tries to explain it away in the way that she does.
I may not have a lot of wisdom to share on the matter but I will offer you this: You are not the words that other people call you. You are a special, unique person that has worth and value just because you are You.
