My parents
My parents are divorced, and live in different states. I’m being asked by both of them how they want me to live with them or near them every single time I talk to them. I currently live very far away from them which is convenient since they are narcissistic, and very invalidating. I want to move into a small house somewhere maybe close to at least be closer to my friends, but have absolutely no desire to live in the same area as them. I still want distance. Please help me figure out what I can say or do so I’m not guilted or obligated to move near one of them. I’m a very independent person, and I hate I’m feeling forced.

It sounds like they are putting a lot of pressure on you to make a choice to be closer to one parent or the other. It's not fair of them to put that kind of pressure on you when you have made a life for yourself far away from them. You said you want to live nearer to the people who support you, friends with whom you have a bond. You're considering putting down roots, finding a small home, and pursuing your career in the place of your choosing. When you've talked with them, have you mentioned the economic impact moving close to them would have on you and your career path? Do you think that might be something they would respect even if that's not the answer they want to hear?
