Sick dad

My dad has had chronic kidney disease since 2011. He has reached the 4th stage, and he is just one step away from dialysis. He has always told us he never wants to go through dialysis, and we as a family have always agreed that we will respect his choice. In just one week, he will receive his new lab results which will tell if he has reached the final stage. I feel very scared, and I know I’ve had 10 years to get ready, but I know I’ll never be ready to lose my dad. I feel so small and scared and I really don’t know what to do.

@maja77

I am so very sorry about your dad. There are no words to cover the pain of an ailing parent with a serious illness. I have been there. It was about 8 years for me with my dad. I have to say at the time of his passing I went into shock. No matter the time frame your never ready to let go of your loved ones. But the first time I went to his resting spot he spoke to me ( sounds crazy but it's true) and said I wasn't to worry he wasn't in pain anymore and was at peace. That gave me peace.

No matter what happens your dad will live inside your heart forever. You will have a rough go in all this but reach out for help with a Dr or clergy, friends, family ,mentor or teacher for support. You will need people to hold you up. Your so brave to share your feelings here, but I'm hoping my post helps a tiny bit. It's normal to be frightened but your strong and your love shared with your dad will live forever through eternity.

Again I'm very sorry, ABB

I've got my fingers crossed that he doesn't need dialysis. I feel your pain and wish I could wave a magic wand and fix it. The truth is, we're never ready for our loved one to go. And there's beauty in that, because they're loved; but, there's also pain, because they'll be terribly missed. I'll be thinking about you guys.
