Something I wish I could say to my parents is ...

Hi everyone! I hope you are well. Today let's reflect on the parental relationships we have. Whether your biological parents or people who served as guardians. There are things we sometimes hold back from to get along, protect peace, or avoid hurting someone.

If you could honestly say something to a parent, what would you say to them?

@Hope - Something that took me a long time to say to my parents was "Thank you." For me to be grateful, and really mean it.

It also took years for me to forgive one of them for past mistakes.

I try not to dwell on that, but it was hurtful and difficult to "get over".

We have been through a journey of healing, and I think we are closer than before.

I should go and call them now!

@Hope

You shamed me for being "too sensitive" when you could have encouraged and validated my emotions. I didn't ask to be this way but I can now see it as a gift. I wish you had been the first in my life to value that part of me, instead of telling me I would be alone, friendless, and unmanageable if I didn't hide my emotions.

I would ask my Mother to respect my privacy and not bring up things from my past that upset Me.

@Hope I want to say "thank you" to my parents. Although I am not used to saying these words as I grow up, I will sincerely appreciate them every time in my heart. Although I often find them annoying, I know they love me, so I want to thank them for everything they have done for me.

@Hope

I wish I could open up about my childhood trauma which they don't know about, or the fact that I am autistic. But I don't want to cause them pain and I know, even though it is completely wrong, that they would blame themselves. My sister is transgender and my mum spends a lot of time worrying about her. My sister needs the parental support more than me, so I wouldn't want to tell them about my issues.

I wish we had actual conversations instead of ignoring our problems and not being there for the damaging bits in my life
