Adoptive/Foster Parent Support Thread

Hello everyone!

I wanted to create a threat to specifically support adoptive parents and foster parents. My name is Lisa. I am a former foster youth, adoptee, former foster parent, former guardian, adoptive parent. Professionally I worked law enforcement for over a decade before I became a social worker and went to child protective service investigations. Due to my significant investigation experience I got the most egregious cases involving children. Eventually I moved to being a treatment foster care licensing worker, and adoption investigator. I opened my own private detective agency where I conduct independent child welfare investigations with the goal to remove any potential bias (conscious or unconscious) from CPS investigations from state and local child welfare agencies. I am considered a subject matter expert in my state for adoption trauma, the child welfare system and out of home care trauma.

Due to my significant lived experiences and professional experiences I have the unique opportunity to view situations, struggles, questions, overall wanting general knowledge from many different lenses. I want to extend that support to the 7 cups family. Feel free to reply to the thread or due to the sensitivity of these situations a private message is always welcome. I always respond with kindness, an open heart, an open mind, and seek to understand. I cast no judgement on anyone who reaches out to me and consider it a significant strength.

You could be the best adoptive parent and do everything right and your child will still face trauma from their adoption. Navigating their trauma and how you respond will be so important to their growth and development.
