I want out of my mind. My home. My family. My life. I AM TIRED. The only thing that brings me joy and live is my dog and the only reason I stay. My dad has become unbearable person to be around and his constant berating is getting me. Every answer is wrong even no answer. But I love him, worried about him, and I can't just leave him.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I don’t know your situation so feel free to disregard. I believe I felt similar. My dad drove me crazy and didn’t offer love. I felt like I needed to stay because of my dog. Ultimately I had to leave. Leaving my dog was the hardest thing I had to do. For about a month after if anybody would bring up a dog I would burst into tears. Now I know that I made the right decision. Your dog will love you no matter what. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about your dad. If you will be healthier leaving do it. It’s not easy and it’s definitely not painless but if it will allow you to heal I urge you to do it.

@Mroppy Parent-Children relationships are not easy. There are so many disappointments each side has and bridging the gap of understanding is not possible when either or both sides are obstinate. Wanting to break away is a natural thought - we all want to be in environments that can help us realise our potential.

My home has been quite toxic.

My tips are:

  1. Lower your expectations from your family. They are who they are. No one changes. We have to adjust ourselves with others.

  2. Seek support you need from outside your family. Find people who can give you the love and appreciation.

  3. Be kind to your family to the extent that you're not pushed to your breaking point. Find a balance between meeting your needs and fulfilling theirs.

@Mroppy I'm so sorry you are going through this.   I wish I could offer advice but my dad is the same way.

@Mroppy Im so sorry you feel this way, and there's always conflicting emotions with a parent, I can see the pain your dad causes you while you also love him at the same time. Distance can help, you can still be in each others lives and with space, perhaps even get on better. Sending you my best wishes 🥰💜
