What's the right way to feel about leaving a friendship? I decided to let go of a friend a few days ago, blocked them but they found somewhere else to talk. They apologized and asked if there was any way to fix it, I don't know if they even knew what they were apologizing for or if they were doing it to keep me around. I know better than anyone how familiarity can make you want to stay somewhere even if it's not working, and it stopped working a while ago. It just got finalized, like actually finalized and I'm not sure how to feel. The first time, I was just detached, didn't really care and just went on like normal We were really close and they were someone that I felt really comfortable just being me around, I still Iove them a lot but I got tired of feeling like a second option. They would find time for their new friends and even mention how they were spending time with them to me sometimes, we went from talking everyday to every other day with me just waiting on them. I had been wanting to leave for a long time and I finally found it in myself to do it. I guess what I'm asking is if I did the right thing, I'm going to be alone from now on~vent What's the right way to feel about leaving a friendship? The first time, I was just detached, didn't really care and just went on like normal. This time though, I feel really sad, I had set my hopes on us being friends for years and it really felt that way for some time. I'm starting to wonder if maybe I shot them down too quickly. @Channa845, there is no right way to do it , its just about whether you are ready to handle the consequences when you take a desicion or not.

Hi, I hope you do not mind me providing my input. I just happened to read this as I was on here to see if I got responses to my post. I am not sure because talking everyday with anyone is not something I would be used to unless it's an ex or a relationship I was in. I don't know if this is/was your case, and I don't know why you would feel bad because it sounds like they trusted you and opened up to you about their other friends. They wouldn't have done to hurt you unless that was really their intention. please do not take any of this personally, it's just my perspective observing from the outside, also I am sort of rushing now as I am dealing with a work issue

@Channa845

It is hard to let go of someone who meant a lot to you, no matter how they treated you. From your post it sounds like you made a conscious decision to end it and you have your reasons why you didn't want to be in that friendship any more. It is okay to be confused how to feel. It's all so very recent, be kind to yourself. It is okay to give yourself time to process everything at your own pace and to let the feelings come when they come.

Much strength to you.

I ended a friendship back in August last year and sometimes feel like it was the worse thing I ever did. Her family were like my family (aunt/uncle to each others kids etc) a massive row between her and my partner that ended the whole friendship after 6 years. My partner just gets on with life that it never happened that they never were in our lifes but I feel that gap each and everyday somedays it hurts like *** but others I just think she didn't bother to contact me so guess the friendship was never really a great friendship in the first place. I know communication works both ways but when you hear things that have been said behind your back or other people get involved, it kinda makes the whole situation seem irrelevant. If you get what I mean, if they wanted to be your friend still they would be and not throw *** at you instead. I hope you find peace with your decision
