Hello i have a bestfriend for 5 years, we have been really good but i feel like we are disconnecting slowly. We are both busy both in school and working but her work is more exhausting. I am single she is in a relationship for almost 2 yrs, i am also friends with her bf and we are in a group with others. the thing is, sometimes i feel lonely, the only time we hanged out was this year around January and thats it. Sometimes maybe i overthink? she is in touch with her other friends. Sometimes when i feel sad i text her but she doesnt respond like after 10hrs. idk what to do from there.. she is my person but i feel like im not her person.

I understand you feel lonely, your feelings are completely valid. I have dealt with a situation like yours before. Sadly, sometimes friends drift apart (in my experience). I hope you two are able to work it out, it sounds like she means a lot to you 💖

as life gets in the way of friendship........ with work/ relationships etc. some people can weather things and i made a pact with my best friend. we will replay when we can and be support but we are also very aware of time and other obligations.   we are closer and talk more sometimes and other times go a month but, in the end, we will be there for the other person.   I think it is a hard transition when we go from a school or work thing where we see every day to not always available.

when you contact her is it like "what's up" and casual or wanting to get together or meet up? some people avoid responding if it is an invite that they cannot see being able to do at the time, so they act like they did not get the text etc.

I get these feelings too with my best friend. I'm not saying you're overthinking, it may or may not be true, but whenever I have those thoughts I think about some of the things my friend does for me that made her earn the title. She was my family when I didn't have one, she raised money to help change my name to something that fits who I am, she gets me really thoughtful things for Christmas and my birthday that can only come from someone who truly knows and cares me. Even in my most a**holey moments, she's still there for me to be my friend and help me through it, and she's one of the first people in my life who showed me what I conditional love is like.

You wouldn't give that title to just anyone, so what makes her a best friend? I think thinking about that might help you figure things out maybe.
