One of the things I do to stop my mind from racing is to focus on my breathing until I feel a bit more calm. Then I'll write down my thoughts, and make an "action plan" (or whatever you would like to call it) for how to handle the issue(s). If it's something like a fear, or anxiety, my mother always taught me to try and reason with myself about how X thing could never happen.

One thing I'd like to learn is to play my bass guitar. I've always wanted to, but there's always been *something* stopping me.
