Have you used any of the Self-Help Guides here on 7 Cups? They're great tools for learning about more about mental health conditions and various topics.

Did you know that NAMI maintains a Fact Sheet Library on their website that can give you even more great info on mental health topics? There is free info on mental health conditions, treatments, downloadable infographics and even facts sheets available in Spanish.

Challenge:

After checking out both the 7 Cups Self-Help Guides and NAMI Fact Sheet Library, answer the following questions:

- What topic do you find most interesting?

- What mental health condition do you wish we had more info on? What do you want to learn more about?

@lovelyllama13 I'm always interested in info about BPD. It's a confusing diagnosis and I find it fascinating to learn about. I appreciate the fact sheet on it. Would be interested in seeing even more on other personality disorders too.

I've always been fascinated by dissociative disorders-- that's the fact sheet I am most interested in. Dissociative Identity Disorder (which was formerly known as multiple personality disorder) is a mental health condition that I think is widely misunderstood because of it's depictions in movies...

I would LOVE it if there as information on Factitious Disorder. As I've mentioned before, that's my sister's diagnosis and there is hardly any information on it anywhere!

Mental Health Parity! It's such an explicit way in which mental health is discriminated against. We all know that the way our culture works is that the more money you have, the more power you have. For insurance companies to not cover mental health (things you can count, like number of doctor's appointments, % of medication costs covered, etc.) where they would cover physical health conditions is unjust. When resources are given to one thing but not another, that's discrimination and a denial of power.

You can actually report parity violations here: https://paritytrack.org/

@lovelyllama13 I found that the crisis services fact sheet on the NAMI website was very interesting. I never knew there were so many different types of crisis services. For instance, I did not know that family-based crisis services existed and included a professional family as a support system.

One thing that I think could be expanded on is the 7cups financial guide. As a college student, I know that finances are a huge reason for my stress and anxiety (especially as a soon-to-be-graduate). It briefly discusses things like creating a rainy day fund, but a lot of the tips seem like ones that we know we should be doing ideally, but don't know how to get started on it. For example, how to start saving on a paycheck-to-paycheck budget. I feel like if there was more helpful tips on just starting this process, it might make individuals feel more confident about being able to actually incorporate it into their lives.

I find personality disorders really interesting, specificially narcissistic personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder. I would be interested to know more about them as I feel they are portrayed in very stereotypical ways on TV shows and movies.

I wish NAMI had more resources on ways to seek treatment and other mental health resources on college campuses. It would be cool if there was a master list of different colleges and universities as well as the different services offered there.

I don't think I can pick a favorite topic, but I love having the fact sheet library so easily available. The sheets are super easy to comprehend and are therefore good tools for spreading awareness and information to the community. One topic that isn't covered is BFRBs (Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors), and I do think more information on that would be helpful. With the new "fidget toy" craze I think it really helps to remind the public of what fidgets are really designed for, other than just ADHD and Autism. I also feel like there isn't much understanding about the difference between self-harm and BFRBs

@Kate

My favorite 7cups guide is the one on Hope.

When things are really dark and I am in bed past the point of tears I like to retake that one.
