Annoying boss
Not sure why this boss just gets on my nerves. He acts nice but there is this underlying arrogance and every once in awhile a thinly veiled condescension. I’ve had all kinds of bosses. Great bosses, good or meh bosses, and maybe one slightly jerk boss. But this person pisses me off, to the point that it affects me out of work, and in the past has ruined entire weekends. I know at least two other employees really hate this boss. I’ve been working on not getting triggered, but it keeps coming up. I thought I was getting better at it, but not so much. This person seems like one of those charming serial killers that no one suspects. I don’t think my boss is a serial killer but something really off about this person. Anyone have a boss that really annoys or creeps you out but you can’t quite say why?
@UnexpectedTomatoe I totally understand what you're saying Tomatoe! Sometimes, there are just people that seem off and you can't figure out why. Do you have to interact with him much? I would just stay as far away as I can 😂 Try not to let it bother you too much, even though I know it's hard. Maintain your inner peace as best you can! We are always here for you! ❤️
Unexpectedtomatoe, it's a tough one when you know what you see/experience from another person, but they remain your boss at the end of the day. In all of us, there is a degree of narcississism no matter how much we try to avoid acknowledging it. When you say they have this underlying arrogance and at times appear condescending, if we all are honest as human beings, we all act in this way. Think of the last time, you felt better than someone in a certain task, or how you look, or your abilities. Or the time you said to yourself, wow, how could they be caught wearing that/smelling like that/eating like, etc. We judge a lot even if we don't like to admit it. My main point here is, we can choose to be bothered by regular human behaviours, let the comments/behaviours of people who don't know you well affect you or just accept it as a right they have which you equally have (to act arrogant, to appear judgemental, to assume, to think you're better than other people).
In the case of you & your boss, why do you think you're so bothered when he's acting quite "normally?" If two other employees don't like your boss, why are the majority of your colleagues seemingly "unaffected." What DOESN'T your boss make you feel compared with great bosses?
If you feel this is unbearable, why do you remain working at this job? How long have you been working at your job? Do you think you can hold out another 6 months to see if you can perceive thos boss differently?
I'm glad I found someone that I can relate to. My boss at work, when you come in, you will never know what mood she's going to be. As soon as she comes in, her attitude looks as if like you're her target for the day and afternoon, she's like your best friend. She told me the other day that I annoy her because she told me that she doesn't like the three way reporting...after she told me she don't want to be out of the loop of things. It's difficult to speak my mind to her because you don't know if she's going to yell at you, be nice, congratulate, etc. Nothing is enough for her, but I'm at my wits end. I'm the front office manager at my job, but when you're treated like a puppet, it's like deal with it or shut up. And I don't have a voice to speak my mind because I'm afraid she's going to retaliate against me.
Hey @UnexpectesTomatoe, it sounds like your boss could be passive-agressive? Maybe they say something "nice" but really it's insulting. "Oh, nice job, you finally got it done on the 10th try" or "That looks fine for a last minute job". Maybe he says something like that?
I've had all sorts of ranges of bosses...mostly not good, based on the industry I was in. I'm getting to old to tolerate bad behavioue bosses, that I'm trying to start my own business.
If your boss is affecting your work... Maybe you can switch to a different department (if you enjoy the job), report boss to HR or someone higher up the ladder, or start secretly looking somewhere else to work. Your mental health and sanity is worth more than a job.
