Anyone else haviing sleep issues because of an irregular work schedule?
It's been months and months now since I've started this work schedule as a part-time teacher, but I can't maintain a consistent sleep schedule. My school days have me waking up at the same early time, but I'm going to bed anywhere from 11:00am to 12:30am and I almost always wake up so exhausted I feel like I'm going to puke. On my not school days, I let myself sleep without an alarm, so I wake up anywhere between 7:30am to 10:30am- but still much later than I would be waking up on a school day.
I know the solution is to set the same early wake time alarm for every day, but I struggle HARD with going to sleep on time (sleep procrastination fueled by anxiety and a need to prolong the day with mindless entertainment to somehow make it more fulfilling and I am almost never looking forward to the next day) and on my not school days it is really hard to resist 'treating myself' with time to sleep in, especially if my teaching day had been stressful/exhausting (and it usually is).
I'm just *** around typing this in bed instead of getting ready for school and every minute that I'm late is a minute of planning time lost and the kids will eat me alive and I'm screwed, but yup that's the procrastination cycle because I'm too exhausted to function. anyways, can anybody relate to the bad sleep schedule thing? Has anyone trained thenselves to overcome it? This inconsistent sleep schedule isn't doing any favors to mood stability lol.

Lack of sleep is not only a real issue for you for both mental and physical health but my guess is you are not performing at your best at work. If you are also procrastinating I am assuming this job is not want you want to do. I have worked all sorts of schedules including graveyard shifts and have just actively adjusted to how much sleep time I need personally.
In the many times I changed schedules the only time I was procrastinating / or not trying to go to bed at a reasonable time was a job I disliked and did not care if I did well.
What is stopping you from just telling yourself "i will go to bed at like 9 " ....... turning off any scrolling or entertainment as you wind down towards a time to go to bed. Constant stimulation with your mind thinking about on computer or such takes time to fade off to sleep.
