Any tips on how to cope with nightmares??
I've been really struggling lately with very realistic nightmares. I wake up panicking, crying shaking. Each dream bringing unwanted memories to the surface. I'm trying to stay positive, and productive through the day, but then as night aproaches, I'm scared to go to sleep. I find myself very jumpy at slight noises throughout the day. It's just hard. Anyone know how to help/deal with nightmares??
@LittleSodo thankyou ❤ I do all those things already, well I haven't had chance to talk to my therapist about it yet. I don't have a family/loved ones. But I live in a care home, so I have carers to help me ❤❤ it's just hard sometimes😥 dreams are to real. But thanks for your kind words and support ❤❤
@Tinywhisper11 I hate nightmares! Supposedly taking magnesium helps with anxiety so I started trying it, no one told me it also gives you super vivid nightmares, so maybe that's causing it if you take that. But what might help is taking a little bit of ibuprofen before bed, that works for me. Not even a whole pill just like a quarter piece.
@genericbeing I don't take magnesium. I don't think I'm allowed ibuprofen either😕 I'm on strong painkillers and stuff for disabilities. And I do take prescribed sleeping meds every night too, so I don't often have nightmares. But for some reason for the past week or so they've become really bad😞 thanks for your suggestion s though ❤ I really appreciate it ❤❤
I’ll advise you to always stay away from stress especially during the night hours and also think happily because happiness kills lots of things
stay safe and blessed
❤️
@Tinywhisper11 I have had ongoing PTSD related nightmares. Nightmares that felt very much like reality. Nightmares that i would wake up and the nightmare would continue in my mind creating incredibly intense panic attacks - out of no where in the middle of the night. Prazosin was the medication my doctor prescribed for me. It was not long term and i no longer have a need to take the medication any longer
@quietlistener2023 Thank you very much ❤❤ but I'm not allowed to use you tube😕 sorry
@quietlistener2023 heyy, thank you for sending her that it looks really good! :)
@Tinywhisper11 hiiiiiii :) I just watched the video for you, its about something called "Dr Justin Havens - dream completion technique" where you (I think) imagine yourself at the point just before you woke up in the dream and then sort of imagine a convincing happy ending I guess? Like what you want to happen in that dream - when you're about to go to sleep - thats a non-scary and safe ending and convincing enough for you half asleep (doesn't have to be logical though, dreams are crazy sometimes, just whatever you feel like :)) <3 Maybe it could be something good to try <3
Here's a couple of pdf links if you can access them or otherwise your could just research the name maybe? https://justinhavens.com/admin/uploads/files/Dream_Completion_Technique_The.pdf and https://justinhavens.com/admin/uploads/files/Dream_Completion_Technique_Cli.pdf
Sending lots of hugs <3<3 hope you're feeling better, nightmares are scary, I get them at times when I'm really stressed about something or just randomly I guess <3 take caree 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕
@tearstruck yeah! I think there's gonna come a point where I have to start dealing with the memories and not just ignore them. Thanks sweetie ❤ your always so kind to me ❤ I really love you ❤
@tearstruck oh ok like sleep training, my psychologist actually mentioned this, apparently it takes a lot of practice, but finally you will be able to change your or control certain things that happen when you dream ❤❤ thank you both ❤❤ hugs you tightly ❤
@tearstrucI
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and explain it...that was very helpful of you
@quietlistener2023 of course! ❤❤
Oh boy… that really sucks. I think it is something you should definitely talk to your care giver or doctor about. Also, maybe trying medication if that’s not something you already tried.
I’m sorry you are experiencing this. You are very safe now and that will not change.
@Tripleplay thanks sweetie ❤❤ I know I'm safe🙂 it's just they can seem so real, and it's just very scary😥 hoping it's just a phase. ❤❤
@Tinywhisper11
You overcame the worst part, so you will also overcome this as well. And if you don’t, eventually you will see me appear in the nightmares randomly, whooping the *** of whoever it is that is causing the terror. 👊🏻💥💥💥🤕❤️❤️🦸🏻♂️
@Tripleplay yaaaay! I can't wait to see you in my dreams. After you kick their butts, we can go get some icecream😋❤ hugs you tightly ❤ ❤
@Tinywhisper11
That sounds like a great plan, my friend.🙂❤️ hugs you back tightly and ruffles your hair.
@Tinywhisper11 Sometimes, the food we eat, can cause bad dreams. Maybe, be more mindful of the foods you eat. Also, stay away from violent TV shows. I hope this helps.
@Tinywhisper11 Passed trauma can cause bad dreams as well. If this continues, maybe talk to a counselor or a trauma specialist. I hope this helps as well.
@calmMango9611 I have a psychiatrist and a psychologist🙂 ❤ I'm in therapy for cpstd, so I will speak to my psychologist about it, when she comes to see me tommorow ❤❤
@Tinywhisper11 That sounds like a plain. I hope they can help you. I hope your session goes well.
@calmMango9611 thankyou ❤❤
@Tinywhisper11 Your very welcomed, my friend.
Chammomile or Sleepytime tea before bed helps calm your mind, melatonin helps you go to sleep. I used to get night terrors and i started listening to Christian music at night. maybe that's not your jam, and if not then i find 3Blue1Brown is amazing music to sleep to
@AsterLight2024 I do have a Christian playlist, and I have a disney lullaby music playlist, and calming sounds and music list. So yes I can try the Christian playlist before bed instead of the calming sounds one. And I don't drink flavoured tea, but my carers do make me a cup of tea after I took my night meds, before I lie down ❤❤ thanks for your suggestions and support ❤ I love you
@Tinywhisper11 im not an expert at all, but heres some things that help me:
- milk/some warm drink before sleeping.
- calming scents
- using humour as a way to cope. Its weird but once i started joking about certain nightmares those nightmares didn't repeat.
- focusing on happy thoughts and memories before sleeping.
- doing something im passionate about before sleeping for e.g if im passionate about researching literature etc and do some of that before bed i might end up having crazy dreams where i see authors or something- but not nightmares.
And probably the weirdest one:
- having an alarm for around 4-4.30 or so. If im having a bad night and wake up around 4-4.30, do a little reading or just walk around the house once and then go back to sleep my sleep is less scary. Almost dreamless sleep. Don't have any idea why 😁
Like i said im no expert and these are definitely not professional tips. Plus i believe the way to "cure" nightmares could vary from person to person or even nightmare to nightmare. Consulting a professional is probably the best way to go about things especially if these nightmares are affecting your daily life.
I hope youre able to find something that works for you 🩷 and sending lots of safe, optional hugs 🩷
@unassumingEyes hugs you back tightly ❤❤ Thank you for the suggestions. I pretty much do all of your suggestions already. Except walk around the house♿♿ but if I wake up from a nightmare, I always have a bit drunk and calm down before going back to sleep, and yes funnily enough that does seems to stop the bad dreams for the night🤔🤔 I use humour as coping mechanism in my everyday life, but I've never used it on my dreams🤔🤔 I could definitely try that ❤❤ thankyou ❤ I love you ❤
@Tinywhisper11 Goodluck 🩷 i love you too 🩷✨️
@ Tinywhisper11 Just like @unassumingEyes I also feel like making fun of your own nightmares helps you feel more comfortable. I also find that talking about them with someone you know helps you out, especially when there are parts of the nightmare that make no sense but are scary, joking about that with someone makes you less scared.
