Building Resilience Together

I think writing about our personal experiences with resilience would be helpful. What’s something difficult that you’ve overcome, and how did you manage to come out stronger on the other side?

Something difficult I’ve overcome is dealing with performance anxiety when singing in public. I used to freeze up and doubt myself, but through consistent practice and learning to focus on my passion rather than the fear, I was able to build confidence and enjoy sharing my music with others.

@adorableGrace87 I'm so happy you overcame performance anxiety. Thats a tough one but we have the power to do it and you are an example of it.

I think Ive been resilient with dealing with projections, critiques and judgments. First they would confuse me and put me in self doubt. Now I review feedback, discern the valid and the biased/ hateful and respond with gratitude, clarification or drawing boundaries. Generally quite comfortable in my own skin. I refused to be broken by it and developed skills and made use of my reasoning faculties to find a safe place for myself.

@Creamyyy

Creamy, I’m so impressed with how far you’ve come in handling difficult feedback and staying grounded. Your ability to discern constructive criticism from biased opinions and respond accordingly is incredibly admirable. You should be proud of yourself for developing such resilience and emotional intelligence - it really shows in the way you carry yourself with confidence and poise. ❤️👍

I struggle with shyness, so I try as hard as it is to push myself out of my comfort zone, and try new things and initiate conversations 💜🥰

@Amanda84That’s real, and honestly takes way more strength than people give credit for. Pushing through shyness isn’t easy, but the fact that you still try to initiate and put yourself out there says a lot about your courage. Keep honoring those small wins; they matter. 💜 You’re building something solid every time you show up like that.

Great to know that you are able to push yourself out of your comfort zone. I am very shy myself.

May I ask what made you not want to initiate conversations earlier and what change of attitude helped you get over that. Like were you scared of people not liking you or rejecting you? What thoughts stopped you earlier and how did you challenge those thoughts to be able to initiate conversations?

@Shygirl2828 I was severely bullied for many years and the insults formed my mindset and shaped how I saw myself, a constant loop was playing in my head, the insults tormented me, I assumed everyone thought the same about me so I didn't open up to anyone and formed no friendships or any sort of relationship. I went travelling the world and being surrounded by the right people allowed me to begin to heal. But I won't lie, it's a daily work in progress 💜🥰

Great to know that you overcame performance anxiety. May I ask how did you work through this.

I understand that you did it through consistent practice and focusing on passion rather than fear but implementing something like this sounds really difficult for me at the stage that I am in. I hope to learn this from your experience.

How did you push through the self doubt? Or what did you tell yourself when you froze? Did you do it all by yourself or did you have any support system?

Good point! I was arrested and charged with strangling my step son. But I never strangled him. All I did was to put my hand up below his chin to stop him from attacking me.

Ive been abused for 34 years of my life. I was a serious mess couldn’t think couldn’t even add much as hear sounds or see faces I literally was in total darkness but would constantly jump feeling my ex was somewhere near to finish off what he had started (strangulation). In time Some how as the darkness started to slowly clear up a friend said straight out you need go to therapy. She took me to a hospital. I entered a day treatment program in such bad shape staff literally had no hope for me but after having a great amount of people in the grips and several therapist all of whom I dealt with in groups gave a lot of support and invested a lot of their time in me loving me when I couldn’t. With positive support and later the support of my husband eventually many years later 25 years to be exact i was removed of all psych meds and was informed I now had become one of their greatest success stories they’ve dealt with. Due to these people from their words and support they gave me permission to never be afraid to be who I truly was and never be afraid. Once I heard those words it was a release of all the garbage I’ve gone through and given a life of freedom, choices, a voice to be made known to all. I was given a life I could of never imagined. I now stand up when anyone tries to think they can get away with abusing me as well as my family.

I’ve learned one must be honest as bad as it may hurt but we must be honest of we are to heal from the pain.

resilience— a word I remind myself of CONSTANTLY. It means Alot to me. ♥️

TW-abuse, addiction, grief

i grew up in an abusive household. 5 kids. As the oldest, I took care of my younger siblings in attempt to make sure they were safe.

My anxiety peaked in high school and I dropped out. Met a guy at 17, had 2 children by the age of 21. He was abusive and was using substances. Finally! I moved away from that. It was lots of back and fourth with court and verbal abuse.

In 2019, I received a phone call that changed my world. My sister who was 3 years younger than me had overdosed. Now because of our upbringing, we were not close with mom. Never met our biological dads. I had to lay her to rest. My precious angel.

I will say, I have a college degree. Work a decent job. Own a house. Single momma. And honored to have had the privilege to provide for my sister when she truly needed me most. I treasure moments of growing up. I’ve learned not to allow any one to disrespect me. And to say the words “I AM A SURVIVOR” 💛💛💛
