Deep Thoughts- Hidden People
I was watching "The Greatest Showman", and noticed that at least some, if not all, of the unusual people that were chosen to perform in the circus, were living hidden away, because society didn't accept or embrace them. They felt unwanted, unchosen, unloved.
It made me think about the hidden people in our societies... People who hide away, because they're not "alike" with the other people in their culture. People who don't leave their house, cover themselves up, avoid staying out too long, who don't go to events, etc. The overweight, the autistic, the nonverbal, those with Tourette's, those with disorders such as schizophrenia or BPD or bipolar, people of races/ethnicities that are minorities in said culture, LGBTQ+, people with physical differences (missing limbs, skin conditions, burn survivors, etc)... The list goes on.
My questions for you:
Are you one of the hidden people? (You don't have to share, or share details. You can also tell your story as if you're talking about someone else you've known, to protect your identity.) Have you known anyone who is? What made you/them hide away, and why? How can we best support you/them? How can we, as individuals and as a society, make you/them feel wanted and accepted? What makes you, you? What makes you unique- not just the reason you stay hidden away, but the other parts of you that aren't seen? How have you changed the world, and how do you plan to continue doing so? How can we best love you? <3

I am blessed I don't have any health or physical problem. I am a minority in my country but I never was ashamed of it thanks to my parents. The only thing I hide I believe is my hypersensitivity. People don't like emotional people which is too bad for them. With the years, I came to like more and more this part. It is also a blessing. But at work, with people I don't know well, I hide this part of my personnality. I have a mask on. Your question made me think of that, but their are way worse situation than mine: I am so so sorry for people having mental, physical illnesses or being rejected for their origins. People are mean but I agree with Kiara, somehow everything that we have makes us unique in a beautiful way.
Lots of love,
@bubbleSummer9800
*cheers for your sentiment on the amazing and unique quality of everyone as individuals*
@jesusredeemedme2425 I'm blessed to be one of those who don't have anything that would make me be different in a way people would struggle to accept. But I would love to hear about other people's experience and learn more about how to make them comfortable.
@jesusredeemedme2425 There's several things on your list that apply to me, but I am not hidden. Desiree is out and proud and embraces all parts of her! ❤️ Really, I actually think my BPD and other mental health issues are why I'm so passionate and the way I am. 😀 Lol.

@jesusredeemedme2425 as some of you know I'm a double amputee also have missing fingers and my body is covered in burns, whip marks etc. I don't leave the home I don't even go outside my room without covering over all the embarrassing parts😥 I think for many years it seems that people are told not to stare, not to be rude. But most people still do theese things, it's terrifying to even think about going outside🙁 on this site you just get to see my face and my personality, and people are kind to me here, I've even been called pretty💖 I wish the whole world could be more like 7 cups 💖
@Tinywhisper11
Things I love about you:
You are strong.
Brave.
Bubbly.
Your humour is so cringe at times, it makes me laugh even harder 😂😂
You have such a bug heart.
You are beautiful.
Warm.
And so genuine.
💕💜
Never forget it 🥰
@Amanda84 awww 💖 thankyou so much 💖I love you 💗
@Tinywhisper11
Your nobility is flawless, shining so bright and with such warmth it makes the sun blush.
Your humour is like spines of chocolate; ticklish when encountered, yet always softly yielding and sweet.
Your compassion seems to be an ocean with an endless horizon.
I think that is what people see when they are fortunate enough to cross paths with you. I am sorry if anyone ever made/makes you feel uncomfortable with your physical presence. A scar of any sort says "HA! Undefeated! Victory is mine!". Whenever you might feel self conscious, remember we all look exactly the same in the dark...until we speak, and then we see who truly shines.
@Tinywhisper11 You're called pretty, because you truly are! Actually, you're gorgeous! Beautiful on the inside and out and it shows in all you do. Look at you! 😍🥰😍🥰 Tiny, I'm sorry you feel you have to hide certain parts of you. Your scars tell a story. What happened to you is nothing you should be embarrassed of. You're an incredibly person, Tiny. I love you. ❤️🩷
@YourCaringConfidant I love you too 💖 thank you 💖

@sadcat13 thank you 💖 I love you too 💖
@jesusredeemedme2425 i'm not tagged though but it's ok . i'm sharing .haha Yeah… I guess in some ways, I am one of the hidden people. Not because I hate the world, but because sometimes it just feels too loud — too judgmental. I’ve had moments where I felt like I didn’t quite fit anywhere, like people only saw parts of me, not the whole picture.
I think what made me hide was that fear of being misunderstood. When you’re a little different — in how you think, act, or feel — the world tends to label you before it listens to you. So sometimes it’s just easier to stay quiet, stay home, or blend in.
But I’m learning that being hidden doesn’t mean being invisible. I’ve got my own spark — creativity, empathy, a weird sense of humor 😅, and a heart that feels everything. Those parts of me make me who I am, even when nobody sees them.
As for changing the world… I think I’m doing it in small ways. Through kindness. Through words. Through just surviving the hard days and still caring about people. And I’ll keep doing that.
How can people love us better? By seeing us — really seeing. By not trying to fix us, but by accepting us as we are.
@thoughtfulSail5983 thank God for this site💖 you will always have a place here with us 💖 you don't have to hide here this is your safe place 💖💖 gives you a giant tiny hug 💗 creative with a wierd humour you've already won me over💖😁💖
@Tinywhisper11 haha. Welcome 😊
I love, love, LOVE that movie, and partially because of exactly what you mentioned. It takes the hidden people and gives them a platform and a voice and acceptance. Yes some people may still not understand and they would view them as entertainment but they also got a huge loving community out of it (and that progress is great)
Idk if this counts but I’ve struggled with weight all my Life, I’m adopted and I don’t look like my family at all. I’m taller, darker and bigger than any of them. As I’ve grown up I’ve realized there are actually a lot of people that look like me (I’m a good chunk Native American) and that I actually don’t look “wrong” standing near other mixed people with bigger bodies but growing up I was always told “you’d be pretty IF you lost weight” and so for awhile I dealt with that by massively overeating (and I still notice that when I’m emotional my first reaction is to eat)
Anyway I moved and got a doctor not in Manhattan where I grew up and I kept telling her to check if I had diabetes, to the point where I was crying and panicking and she looked at me and said “Diana, your bloods are beautiful, where is this coming from?” And I told her about how I grew up and the comments my family and friends would make and she just said “ah” and reassured me that I needn’t worry but we did the tests anyways and I’m well within the healthy range
But it really helped me heal to hear my doctor see how I was upset and ask me where it came from. She didn’t say “why do you think that?” Or “do you have symptoms” she was so aware that this was an external fear instilled in me and it has helped me to work on my self-image
Unfortunately I do not feel safe in my area, we have neighbors who spy on us and send photos of our property from their property so I admit I mostly stay inside all day :/ but we are moving soon to a place with a lot more land and I am eager to stop hiding inside
That was a long ramble but yeah thank you for posting, it’s so true that many of us struggle with things like this and I appreciate you providing a thread for us to talk about things 💗💗💗
